Finally had the time to sit down and watch Warrior today. Perfect movie. And one of the only movie that I am not ashamed to admit I cried during. Those father-son, brother-brother scenes will get to anyone who can relate to it.
The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption....while not the best movie of all time. I never stopped having a good watch. MUCH, MUCH better than that crapfest that was Rise of a Warrior.
Just turned on Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. Hope it doesn't disappoint.
You and I are in the same boat. It wasn't very scary..but it was creepy.
Finally saw I Saw the Devil. And Jesus Fucking Christ. Never have I once been so enthralled by a revenge movie quite like how I was with this one.
It makes a good double feature with Red White & Blue. These two both rocked my world.
The only time I heard about that movie was on the AITH podcast a few days ago. I should check it out if its half as good as ISTD than I'm sure I will love it just as much.
Hearing Daniel Craig didn't like Quantum of Solace sucks. It is my favorite Bond flick right behind License to Kill.
It had it's moments but the plot was a bit of a mess.. I recently sat down to watch it again and I felt like there was a great Bond movie in there somewhere.
Watching TREMORS for the first time on blu ray.....I never noticed the snow on the mountains before..
My dad just said "I love you son." to me for the first time in almost seven years. Not going to lie, it was a good close to my night.
Just finished watching The Thing (2011) and was pleasantly surprised by the monster madness it had going on. While I love the originals slow burn, this new one gave me what I wanted out of a prequel, nonstop monster action. I loved the creature design, and loved finally seeing how the alien naturally looked.
I could be alone on this, but does anyone else think it's awesome when a low budget straight to dvd movie gets a slip sleeve cover for its dvd or blu ray release?
The motion covers are pretty cool...did you ever see the Green Lantern 3D cover though? It was horrible, pixelated and blurry...such a bad cover.
Saw the new Hellraiser flick.....while not the best movie ever made, it is still better than 3-8. Take that for what its worth, I enjoyed the flick.
Creature (2011) Review
So I just sat through my first indie horror limited release film. Creature. I never saw any commercials for this flick, no trailer was seen, in fact the only ads I even saw were the website banners whenever I went to Arrow in the Head. The monster looked awesome, so I googled the shit out of it and found out that it was playing at my local AMC theater. Popped into my car and drove my ass down to see it.
Once I sat down, and the lights dimmed for the previews to begin I got in a good mood. I have had a thing whenever I go to the movies, if the trailers before the movie sucks, then the movie I am about to see will blow ass. But every single trailer I saw was pretty damn cool. So, naturally I was pumped for this puppy. Then the movie started, with a full shot of a girls boobs I might add. She immedietly gets killed for skinny dipping. THEN BAM! CREATURE slams on screen and we get introduced to our main characters.
The first thing I noticed was that I actually recognized one of the actors in this movie, and fellow True Blood fans with as well, Mehcad Brooks aka Eggs from the second season of True Blood. He is out "hero" of the film. Which I am all for, its not every day we get a theatrical horror film where to token black guy is the lead and ultimate badass of the movie. So I dug him, and found myself wanting to see him pull through all the crazy shit he was going through. All the other actors in the movie are lesser knowns, with the exception of horror film ace Sid Haig (House of a 1,000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects) pops in for a few scenes.
The character development in this movie is fairly well done, we get a solid 45 minutes of getting to know each one of these guys before we get into the madness. All the actors portray their characters respectively, none of them had me rolling my eyes at their performences. So, thats good at least. Once we get to the point of ending character development and into character dismemberment the movie picks up. The creature, "Lockjaw" is given a background story that I can swing with (incest is a big theme in this flick) seeing that it takes place in Louisiana.
When the action sets in and Lockjaw begins to do what he does best (rip people to shreds) I got a litte sad. The majority of the kills are off screen, if it wasn't for the nudity and swear words this would no doubt be PG-13. I pray for an unrated Blu-Ray in the future with all the kills properly put back into place. One more thing that bugged me a little is this; the movie is called CREATURE, but we only have a solid 20 minutes of epic mayhem in the movie. I really wanted to see more of this guy, I loved his look and creepy little clicking alligator sounds, as well as his ever fucking loud roar he lets out after every single kill he pulls off. But, I can see past all of that because I had so much fun with the finale of this movie. It was a B movie, and played it proudly.
As the credits rolled on this movie, I sat there with a smile on my face. It was mostly everything I expected it to be. With the exception of not seeing the monster for the majority of the flick until the final twenty minutes. If you are willing to sit through 45 mintues of fairly well done character development, fifteen minutes of offscreen kills, then twenty of full blown stalk sequence and action then go pay your $7.50 and get your ass into that theatre and watch this beast right now.
I give it 3/5
HappyI finally saw Green Lantern last night. And I totally dug it. I don't see what all the uproar was about. Sure it wasn't as epic as the comics, but its the origin story. It was cool as hell for what it was.
With John Carpenters last few films, am I alone in thinking that he should just give up?
Don't give up, the legend has only made 10 movies in 11 years and did you see Cigarette Burns? I didn't see The Ward, but he's got one hell of a resume, I still want to see what he puts out.
I made the mistake of trying to watch Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth....I got fifteen minutes in and just skipped to all the Pinhead scenes.
All I remember was it had one bitchin' scene where a chick gets her skin ripped off and is sucked into the Pinhead obelisk stone thingie.
But yeah, those CD and camcorder-head cenobites were goofy as hell.

Definite Lovecraft-ian nods.
In both movies.
