I love it when a movie completely takes me off guard by being surprisingly great. I mean, it's not that I was expecting to not like "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot," but everything I'd seen about it was very reminiscent of Bill Murray's "Rock the Kasbah" from last year (which I saw in theaters for whatever reason). And while I enjoyed Murray's film, it was pretty disposable and I've forgotten most of what happened in it.
Fey's flick is gonna stick with me, though. The character work is outstanding. Hell, even the doofy kid from "Red State" and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" has some stand out moments.
Highly recommended, for sure.
