tops of 2008

17 The Ruins
I admit I'm kind to horror movies, I like the genre, so others may not like this, but I liked this because it had good characters, suspense and not a lot of gore
16 Hellboy 2
Ron Perlman kicks ass and I liked the drunk singing scene. And tons of amazing visuals
15 Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Funniest movie I saw this year, Rogen is hilarious, haven't laughed that much in a while
14 Burn After Reading
The Coens can't make a bad film, this isn't their best, even so, its still very entertaining
13 Body of Lies
I don't know why everyone's hating on this, Leo was very good and it was a very intriguing story
12 Revolutionary Road
Good acting, good ideas, goes on a bit long at end, too much vaginal bleeding for my taste
11. Doubt
Hoffman and Streep give powerhouse performances and accurately captures Catholic school/parish life
10. Milk
Penn makes you believe he's Milk and Van Sant adds several nice creative touches
9. Gran Torino
I don't know how you can not like watching this, regardless of overall quality
8. In Bruges
Funny, sad, suspenseful, it does it all
7. Slumdog Millionaire
Very involving and exhilarating, though the kid annoyed me at times and had some extreme coincidences
6. The Wrestler
Rourke carries this movie and I liked the behind the scenes of the wrestling world
5. Let the Right One In
No other movie this year, affected me emotionally as this, very haunting, despite minor plot quibbles
4. Tell No One
Intriguing involving suspenseful airtight story, and the main guy was really good
3. Frost/Nixon
Biggest surprise of the year, manages to balance between education and entertainment perfectly in addition to amazing acting
2. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Probably best made film technically, also left me thinking about life and death. Very touching, best music of the year.

And drum roll please, (although theres no surprise here)
1. The Dark Knight
I had not anticipated any film as much in my life as I did this, and it managed it to meet them. So many great qualities, well executed action, thought provoking moral questions, good use of Chicago, good music, and acting especially Ledger.
