Plot: After the sudden death of her fiancé, Gray Wheeler finds comfort in the company of his friends: lighthearted and comic Sam, hyper-responsible Dennis, and, oddly enough, his old childhood buddy Fritz, an irresponsible playboy whom she'd previously pegged as one of the least reliable people in the world. As secrets about her supposedly perfect fiancé emerge, Gray comes to see new sides of the man she thought she knew, and at the same time, finds herself drawn to the last man she ever expected to fall for.

Review:

Watched this with the wife when it came out in theaters. Yesterday, we got around to re-watching it on Blu Ray. IMHO it's an average romantic comedy...

The plot is nothing original and completely predictable, there are a few twists throughout that sort of add to the story. The biggest downfall is probably the script. The dialogue in this movie is pretty hokey at times, any signs of conflict between characters has been completely removed and everyone is just so damn passive!!! The only refreshing thing about it is Kevin Smith who was obviously ad-libbing through most of the movie. The movie is capped off with a ridiculous ending that is pretty far fetched in the realm of reality.

Garner and Olyphant did a half decent job of carrying a pretty stale movie, that is until Juliette Lewis comes along. Lewis and Smith really steal the show whenever they get on-screen together, which I found to be a bit surprising. That being said, it's still not enough to save this one...

Despite all of the above, I imagine women will get more out of this one than most men will. This movie is a decent date movie and is a pretty tolerable Romantic Comedy/Drama for guys...I can think of a lot worse Chick Flicks out there.

Overall, as a Kevin Smith fan I thought he did a decent job considering his "acting" talents have always been secondary to his Directing, but as a whole the movie is a bit of a letdown. My wife certainly appreciates it a lot more than I do...
