You checked-out The Debt. Good. As you note, The Debt does have a healthy blend of styles. The story is not rushed, but it does have a few jolting scenes. The second half does change the movie's tone a bit. For me, the prisoner scenes worked. However, the later Ukrainian plot twist seemed a little far-fetched.
Everyone should see this movie. Enough people talk about it. And, Jessica Chastain's career took off after doing this movie.

great review man, love this one as well. I tried watching the original and honestly just didn't like it that much, but I'd actually say this is probably one of my favourite horror flicks ever. Agreed about the kid, he was damn good -- and that 'the movie's wrapping up... wait no it's not!' twist with him is one of my favourite turns in a movie ever 'you weren't supposed to...' lol

Anakin at 05:22 PM Sep 07

It's a well made film but just no where near as scary as the original. Shocked at the love this one gets to be honest.

I was a big fan of The Collector when it came out. Sure, it felt like movie that was jumping on the Saw bandwagon, but the addition of the collection aspect as trophies and the Thief stumbling into the house sort of added a nice little plot to drive the story...[more]...

Raising Arizona

Directed by: Joel Coen
Written by: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Holly Hunter, Trey Wilson, John Goodman, William Forsythe
Studio: Fox
Genre: Crime, Comedy
Official Site:
Plot: When a childless couple of an ex-con and an ex-cop decide to help themselves to one of another family's quintupelets, their lives get more complicated than they anticipated.

Did a blind buy of this one and finally got around to having a first time watch. What a great, fun, purely entertaining movie!

For starters...Nicholas Cage, what the hell happened? He was so good in this movie as was everyone else....but Cage was just light years better than the crap he's churning out these days.

Wasn't sure what to expect going into this one, but it delivered some excellent comedy, just some great laugh out loud moments. Great music, acting, pacing, direction all put into a pretty fun oddball storyline! Some excellent black comedy moments and subtle one liners in there. I'm sure I need to watch this one again to pick up on some of the dialogue I missed first time around...The fight scenes between Cage and Goodman was rewound TWICE by myself as I couldn't believe what I was seeing...just amazingly put together.

The Blu ray looked decent, nothing outstanding and nothing subpar. Guessing the budget at the time might have had something to do with the mid-range quality. Tones were great and detail was excellent (that big biker dude had some excellent detailing on his face).

Overall, I cannot believe it took me this long to watch this one. Surely a classic and one that I really look forward to checking out again down the road.

Did a blind buy of this one on Blu Ray...

Great premise, great cast, what went wrong?

Let me just say, the cast in this one was great. Wahlberg, Phoenix, Theron and Caan were all as expected. You could tell they were trying, they really were. The movie started out strong establishing characters well and getting to the main story and it goes along strong until the main incident that sets off a chain of events that become the meat of the the movie went on it seemed to just drag out...the story got pretty thin and all over the place, random scenes didn't really fit together and made you wonder why they were even in the movie. Even though the ending provided some closure to most of the characters I found myself not even really caring by the time it got there. Strong opening, strong ending, nothing in between...

The Blu Ray looked like crap, low quality image, little detail and somewhat fuzzy at times...and this movie looked dark, bland and drab. No color at all...I'm not sure if this is the look they were going for, but it really wasn't much of a pleasure to watch.

Overall, doubt I'll ever watch this one again...doubt I'd watch it if it were on T.V....going to sell this one.

I agree with your entire review. And, the 6/10 rating is about right. For awhile, Eastwood made movies that were only pretty good: Absolute Power, Space Cowboys, Blood Work, True Crime. Then, he did Mystic River and took-off from there.
My dad and I watched Absolute Power one time on home video. He was utterly embarrassed during the long sex scene. It was friggin' hilarious!

Totally agree with the middle of the road movies...I'm sure the scene was made even worse by the fact it was Gene Hackman and it goes on and on and on...
