Plot: In the rail yards of Queens, contractors repair and rebuild the city's subway cars. These contracts are lucrative, so graft and corruption are rife. When Leo Handler gets out of prison, he finds his aunt married to Frank Olchin, one of the big contractors; he's battling with a minority-owned firm for contracts. Willie Gutierrez, Leo's best friend, is Frank's bag man and heads a crew of midnight saboteurs who ruin the work of the Puerto Rican-owned firm. Leo needs a job, so Willie pays him to be his back-up. Then things go badly wrong one night, a cop IDs Leo, and everyone now wants him out of the picture. Besides his ailing mom and his cousin Erica, to whom can Leo turn?
Did a blind buy of this one on Blu Ray...
Great premise, great cast, what went wrong?
Let me just say, the cast in this one was great. Wahlberg, Phoenix, Theron and Caan were all as expected. You could tell they were trying, they really were. The movie started out strong establishing characters well and getting to the main story and it goes along strong until the main incident that sets off a chain of events that become the meat of the story...as the movie went on it seemed to just drag out...the story got pretty thin and all over the place, random scenes didn't really fit together and made you wonder why they were even in the movie. Even though the ending provided some closure to most of the characters I found myself not even really caring by the time it got there. Strong opening, strong ending, nothing in between...
The Blu Ray looked like crap, low quality image, little detail and somewhat fuzzy at times...and this movie looked dark, bland and drab. No color at all...I'm not sure if this is the look they were going for, but it really wasn't much of a pleasure to watch.
Overall, doubt I'll ever watch this one again...doubt I'd watch it if it were on T.V....going to sell this one.
