I know this one didn't do so well at the box office, but was still pretty excited to see it...[more]...

As you mentioned, The Last Stand has a very '80s feel to it: from the dialogue to the plot's events. For some fans, that retro approach is not going to work.
Fortunately, Arnie gets to redeem himself in Escape Plan during September.

Checked this one out on Blu Ray, hadn't seen it in quite some time...
For starters, this movie is just simply a guilty pleasure...anyone other than Adam Sandler trying to pull of this movie would fail miserably. The premise and story are pretty stupid and the dialogue delivered in any way other than Sandler's would be brutal...This movie is essentially Happy Gilmor with football. Swap out Weathers for Bates, Golf for Football, Love Interest and Antagonist and you pretty much have a similar movie.
Casting was decent, Kathy Bates was excellent and I'm still to this day surprised at how well she fits in, Henry Winkler is also great and probably owes Sandler some credit for resurging his career. The rest of the cast is pretty much filled with Sandler regulars.
The Blu Ray was decent, there's punchy chroma and then there's The Waterboy...damn those uniforms were bright. It's almost as if they were glowing. Not sure if that's a negative, but the disk looked decent with the exception of some over compensated chroma at times.
Overall, it's silly...but it's a fun mindless time when Sandler was near the top of his game.

Nicolas Cage Commercial...Seriously.

Watched this one for the first time the other night, have to say it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be.
Usually movies adapted from Television shows don't turn out so well, especially when they're comedies. With this one, they certainly seemed to get a lot of things right.
The premise was pretty stupid, but the movie just worked. You have to give the writers credit. Taking a stereotypical plot from the 80's and adapting it into a full blown movie that doesn't come off stupid, doesn't drag and is pretty damn entertaining.
The comedy was decent, great mix of situational comedy, gags, one liners all mixed with some decent action sequences. Let's face it, Channing Tatum doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to movies...but comedy?! I was pleasantly surprised. Jonah Hill also had some great timing and chemistry with Tatum which is what made the movie work so well. The addition of Ice Cube was excellent and he clearly stole every scene he was in. Also, some great little cameos sprinkled throughout to keep momentum going.
The blu ray was excellent, no complaints at all.
Overall, a surprisingly decent comedy that is probably one of the funniest movies I've seen released in the past couple of years. Definitely need to watch this one again!!!

I too was surprised that I loved this movie. Great review Fred, this really was fun, surprisingly so.

Finally got around to checking this one out, wasn't sure what to expect...[more]...

You call Trouble with the Curve decent several times, and you indicate that a person does not mind watching the movie. Both statements are true. The parents and I watched this one around Christmas last year. It was a good family movie for a more mature family.
Happy Mother's Day!
nice, bet Total Recall would look nuts on blu-ray, it was just gorgeous on the big screen
I thought it was ok after seeing if for the first time...I'm a fan of the traditional bond movies and have been watching them since I was a kid. This movie seemed more geared towards todays generation than the tradition of the franchise. There was also a ton of hype around it when I saw it, so seeing it with fresh eyes and realistic expectations may change my view of it...
over rated duh duh duhduhduh over rated duh duh duhduhduh haha. Solid flick though, but pretty flawed. I was disappointed too.

I liked it a little more , but I agree the ending was a definite let down . That whole wraparound made very little sense . Good job My Man !!
