took a break from the deeper, serious movies by having just watched THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2. Not bad and funnier than I thought. Worth it just to see Sheriff Dennis Hopper vs. Leatherface in a chainsaw fight.

DRC5145'S LATEST ACTIVITY
just listened to the /Filmcast's Podcast with Micheal Doughetry where he talked about his original plan/idea for X-MEN 3... All I can say is FUCK FOX for not letting that idea happen. It's the polar opposite of X3 in terms of story and quality...
Hey, would 'ya mind linkin' that? I'd love to hear it, even though I know it'll just piss me off....
No prob. Here you go. They ask Doughertry about that around the 25 minute mark.
Just capped off my splurge on Criterion DVDs buy getting DO THE RIGHT THING and nabbed the best deal of all...I used a 25% off (single item) coupon I got in an email from Barnes & Noble and was able to use it on a Criterion DVD. Bought the Seven Samurai 3-Disc Set for $18.75!
You don't know how happy I was when I saw that the coupon worked. That Seven Samurai DVD (3-Disc) is $50 normally. I still can't believe it all worked fine.
My Criterion Collection just got beefier. Just received FEAR & LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and THE THIRD MAN in the mail today. For a total of $40. Thank you, B&N, Thank you.
Just out of curiosity, did you take advantage of B&N's free shipping? If so, how long did it take to receive your DVDs?
There's a few more Criterion DVDs I want to buy, all of which are out of stock/sold out at my local B&N store. I need to know the delivery time of B&N's free shipping because I want to ensure I'll receive my DVDs before Thanksgiving (as long as I place my order sometime today).
My friend works at a B&N up in Massachusetts and he's been making out like a bandit with that deal. Sadly, I'm broke as a joke. Luckily I already have the F&L one, but I'm jealous of your Third Man buy.
I did. My order came in pretty quick. I was given the chance to have the package come in at 3-5 days shipping time for free. I ordered them on the 13th and they came in yesterday. If you order by today or tomorrow, you should get them before Turkey Day.
just finished THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU today. 1st time watching, I liked but I have a feeling I missed some big and little things. I feel compelled to give it a re-watch in the near future...a similar feeling I've had with some films like Big Lebowski....
Probably Wes Anderson's most underrated movie. For some reason I connected strongly to the father/son relationship as well as the short-hand comraderie between Zissou's crew.
The movie is probably his most multi-layered. That father-son relationship is so good too, and how it wraps around somewhat at the end with the reporters newborn and Claus's nephew. I really love that movie. It's kind of nerdy but a few years back when my wife called to tell me we were having a kid, I was in the shower and started crying when I thought of the line, "This is an adventure." Great, great fiilm that can do that.

got to see THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS today. Great film but still dwelling on it a bit. Also very happy because I nabbed The Life Aqauatic with Steve Zissou (Single-Disc), Time Bandits and Z, from the Criterion Collection, for 1/2 price at Barnes & Noble.
I just finished The Life Aquatic. I liked it but I'm not sure what to make of it completely. It's a similar feeling I got with Parnassus actually where I have a good feeling some aspects and little things flew by my head, but I saw enough to like the film. I do feel compelled to see it again so hopefully it runs better this time. It's a gut feeling I have with some movies also, like Big Lebowski, which got better with re-watches.
"tis just so well crafts" - hahaha
You saw PARNASSUS already? You lucky bastard!
Great to hear that you liked the film. I can't wait to see it.
just wrapped up Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut. It's pretty good but flawed. If I had to pick, I'd stick with the Director's Cut as the best cut to show to newbies.
just got back from seeing PIRATE RADIO. It's a flawed but nonetheless fun romp at the movie. total love letters to 60's music and the rise of rebellion as a whole.
is excited to be seeing PIRATE RADIO and THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS over the next 2 weeks.
finished PAPRIKA. It's a crossover of Miyazaki, Lynch and Hitchcock. Another mind-bender in vein of the last 2 Gillaim movies I've seen (Brazil and 12 Monkeys) but with Reality and Dreams having been merged from the 1st minute of the movie and goes more all-out from there. Loved it.
After viewing 12 MONKEYS...and after finally gathering enough funds...i'm excited to say I'll be owning the 3-DISC CRITERION SET OF BRAZIL in a few days time!
Your gonna love the documentary on the movie. Also the studio cut of BRAZIL that's included on Disc Three is a hoot.
That is pretty sweet. I still have the VHS of both so I'm jealous right now.
Thanks. I read about it and I'm pretty excited to see it. Shit, I'm just excited at the chance to see it again. I also really want to hear Gilliam's commentary on the studio cut.
just wrapped up 12 MONKEYS. Saw it when I was very young (6 or 7) and didn't understand jack shit about it. Now? What a great movie.
If you dug it, check out the bizarre, experimental, but really interesting short film it's based on, the classic La Jetee:

I'm definitely gonna check out the film Q, thanks. I had no idea it was a remake.
got back from seeing A SERIOUS MAN. Awesome movie. The Coen Bros. are the shit.
You're lucky. It's not playing anywhere near me, and I know it's going to take forever to come out on DVD. But I'm glad you dug it.
I hope it comes out in your area at some point. It's definitely well worth a travel to see.

You should see Next Generation. Matthew McConaughey is hilarious.
