The video features a street race and co-stars Keanu Reeves, drawing stylistic inspiration from the 1955 James Dean/Natalie Wood film "Rebel Without A Cause", and as such, has a period theme.

Chillin'I'm at work... But that doesn't stop me from representing!!!

Love MFC!!!
Surprised“I would say that we struggled to find a way to present a mythic terrorist that had something about him that registered after the movie’s over as having been a unique take, or a clever idea, or a way to say something of use. And what was of use about the Mandarin’s portrayal in this movie, to me, is that it offers up a way that you can sort of show how people are complicit in being frightened. They buy into things in the way that the audience for this movie buys into it. And hopefully, by the end you’re like, ‘Yeah, we were really frightened of the Mandarin, but in the end he really wasn’t that bad after all.’ In fact, the whole thing was just a product of this anonymous, behind-the-scenes guy. I think that’s a message that’s more interesting for the modern world because I think there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes, a lot of fear, that’s generated toward very available and obvious targets, which could perhaps be directed more intelligently at what’s behind them.” - Shane Black
If you have to explain/defend the reason behind the "Twist", then yah, it really was a shitty idea!
My friend said, "Yah, it would've been hard to portray The Mandarin with his alien rings and such..."
Me thinking to myself: "...have you not seen The Avengers? Thor? Captain America?"
AngryI loved the twist and thought it was worked here. The Mandarin still ended up being a pretty powerful, supernatural character, but had an added complexity to him and his arc with the whole twist thing. I don't get the complaints at all myself... I mean I don't read comic books but I don't understand the purists mad at this... I mean because all the other Marvel movies were so faithful to their source material?
Dodong, I am somewhat angry along with you. Black is just trying to bullshit his way out of an unpopular decision. One doubts that the subtext was intended. I think that the Mandarin was ersatz for other reasons. Everyone keeps mentioning that Chinese investors might have disliked a retro, traditional Marvel Mandarin. Well, maybe so. However, people should remember that American audiences might have also disliked an Asian stereotype.
Of course, the film-makers did not have to present the Mandarin in his traditional costume from the comics. Especially in recent times, the Mandarin wears a business suit and speaks eloquent English. But, Black and his buddies knew the source material only somewhat. For example, besides the re-interpreted Mandarin, Iron Man 3 presents re-interps of Coldblood, Firepower, and Ellen Brandt. Seemingly, Black glaned at a marvunapp.com list of Marvel's secret agents and then selected the coolest names. He did not really know these characters, nor did he want to.
BoredYeah it was funny... I also like this because it's one of those things I mull about when watching action scenes, like, are all of these henchmen seriously so married to the cause that they will keep fighting for the cause even if death is pretty much imminent?
Happyhaha I love the meteor pic man!! That would be so awesome if they included that in the movie somehow!!
