Oh MFC, it's been too long. Life has gotten so exciting and crazy that I have very little time to indulge in the MFC community. Great things are happening though. My life has taken a turn for the far better since last year. I hope you're all doing well.

MFC MEME

545185_10151040365956565_604958874_n
1. First Name (if you're cool with that)? Steve
2. Explanation of Your MFC Name? The word "Anchoress" refers to the Greek word, anachorein, meaning “to go apart”. It's proper origin is based in religion and pertains to someone who goes against the idea of faith. While I am not faithless, I do believe that the idea of God resides solely in the heart and mind of the individual and perhaps nothing more. It is a state of mind, the purpose to our consciousness. You ask any two people on this earth about God and not any two of them will describe to you the exact same concept of what they believe "the" omnipotent being to be. That is because it is all very personal and no two concepts can be the same. All of us are God. I chose the term "anchoress" instead of the more masculine "anchorite" because for whatever reason I always tend to lean toward the feminine in almost all things. I find women to be inherently better creatures than men. And while I don't wish to be one I often gravitate toward the labels they are given. As far as the "dead" portion of my name goes ... I've been clinically dead a total of 14 times in my life thus far and have never failed to come back. I am a dead anchoress.
3. Movie Character You Can Relate With the Most? Hunter S. Thompson
4. Most Hated Movie Character? That little confused fuck from Waking Life. I hate that fucking movie so much.
5. Boo Radley? One of the greatest and most tragic characters of literature.
6. Do You Know Any Other Schmoes IRL? I know and have chilled with quite a few. I even share a website and podcast with Hellocookie. She's my homegirl.
7. How Long Have You Been On MFC? Probably the better part of 2 years now.
8. How Did You Hear About MFC? My ex, Kitty Green, turned me onto this portion of the site and I haven't looked back since.
9. Where Was Your Profile Pic Taken? In my living room. It's my own personal artwork.
10. Favorite Animated Character? Asuka Langley Soryu of Neon Genesis Evangelion
11. Favorite Robot? Wall-E
12. Favorite Dinosaur? Tyrannosaurus Rex. Their stupid little arms crack me up.
13. Have You Ever Written A Screenplay? I have not. But I have written several short stories.
14. What Movie Would You Live In If You Could? What Dreams May Come
15. Ever Meet A Celebrity? Plenty. I've got stories.
16. Dont You Think It's Fucking Obnoxious That Those Little Shit Kids Always Try And Take Lucky's Lucky Charms? Not really. Lucky needs to nut up and bust a cap.
17. What Picture Are You Attaching To This? A picture of myself I suppose.
18. (this isnt the most original idea, but I havent seen one on MFC, so shut up)

10 Reasons I Love My Father

27023912b89a11e19e4a12313813ffc0_7bb
1. My Dad never stopped trying to create a better life for me and my family.
2. My Dad used to take us on the greatest vacations. I've seen a lot and have been all over because of him.
3. My Dad borrowed money and worked for the mafia in order to save my life.
4. My Dad could make you believe that anything was possible if you just worked hard enough to get it.
5. My Dad was absolutely hilarious. I have definitely inherited his crass and animated way of making people laugh through honesty and shock value combined.
6. My Dad never had an ego about everything he'd achieved, and it's quite a list.
7. My Dad raised me on horror movies and never put any restrictions on what I was allowed to view growing up.
8. My Dad, after he'd passed, left my sister and I his company which allows me to live comfortably and go about my merry way fulfilling my dream to be an entertaining voice in the world of writing.
9. My Dad always made time for me even if I didn't always make time for him.
10. My father gave me life.

Inside the Actor's Studio: Featuring Special Guest dead anchoress

Bug
1. What is your favorite word? Celestial
2. What is your least favorite word? Any derogatory term that isn't said in jest will just about do it.
3. What turns you on? Someone who is sincerely passionate about the things they do. It doesn't have to be their job, it could be something as simple as photography or their music collection.
4. What turns you off? Narrow mindedness and the inability to accept that what might not vibe for some may very well move someone else.
5. What sound or noise do you love? That little "puff" sound my cat makes when she's fast asleep and a little tuft of air escapes her lips.
6. What sound or noise do you hate? The sound of a slowing heartbeat while watching films. Having had 2 open heart surgeries in the past, this sound sends a negative signal to my brain causing me to fear that something might be wrong internally. It happens every time.
7. What is your favorite curse word? "Mother Fucker" I tend to enjoy the classics.
8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Artist.
9. What profession would you not like to do? Fluffer.
10. If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates? "Just be honest with me ... it was the dinosaurs that sort of ruined my whole gig, right?"

The 5 Most Significant Books of My Life

Topp
1. The Thief of Always - Clive Barker
2. Girls - The Luna Brothers (pictured)
3. Desperation - Stephen King
4. The Killing Kind - John Connolly
5. The Graveyard Book - Neil Gaiman
dead anchoress
dead anchoress at 01:49 PM Apr 05

@TheChange23 - The Luna Brothers are by far and away my favorite comic book writing team ever. Their stories, approach, and ability to write real characters inside of otherworldy situations is unmatched. GIRLS is about an invasion of sorts.

See, the problem with telling you what it's about is that half the fun is not knowing. Seriously, every page that you thumb through or skip ahead of just to look at the art would be a spoiler.

I read this book on a very significant (and recent) day in my life and it couldn't be anymore obvious that I was always supposed to read it on that day ... if you get me. Anyway, my suggestion is that you seek it out in whatever capacity and just go page for page. It's poignant, a rush, and absolutely gorgeous in it's symbolism. It's Sci-Fi, Horror, Suspense, and Mystery all all disguised in gorgeous women bringing about the end of the world.

TheChanges23
TheChanges23 at 01:57 PM Apr 05

WELL...you just sold me my friend! I will definitely give this a read in the near-future...I'm in need of some good material to dive into and this sounds like its right up my alley...Thanks D.A.!

dead anchoress
dead anchoress at 03:15 PM Apr 05

@TheChange23 - You're very welcome! I really hope you enjoy it. It was pretty eye opening to say the least.

And hey (shameless plug) if you need something to guid you in what to read comic wise you could always check out my website that I run with hellocookie: http://talkingcomicbooks.com/ - we also do a bad ass podcast each week. I hope you enjoy the book.

@Mr Blizzo - Yeah, I felt that DBAOTD got a lot of bad word of mouth when it was released. Claiming that it was like Gremlins? Give me a break. The fact of the matter is that alone it might not have been the greatest film but when you couple it with the book release it is absolutely awesome. The two of them go hand in hand and made for one of the best "companion" movies of the year.

Highlights of 2011

Mooandpoosfw
1. Having another year of love, laughs, and chaos with my beautiful wife, Kitty Green.
2. My favorite part of 2011 without a doubt was meeting Randychico and Lachister in California over the Summer. We rocked Disney World, ate killer food, climbed trees, bonded, and partied it up proper. They are both truly wonderful people and I can't wait to see them again in July.
3. First MFC meetup - NYC - Having the pleasure of chilling with Wallcrawler and Servo. D&B might have been a bust but the company was out of this world. Between Logan's swag and generous nature and Servo's mastery of the group hug it was a night I'll never forget.
4. Landing a bi-weekly column, Ink & Pixel, on a website that has been entertaining me for years.
5. Hellocookie. This girl and I are steadily building an empire together. She is one of my best friends and I have her to thank for many of the opportunities I've crushed this year. Cheers!
6. The Last LCD Soundsystem Show Ever - They'll be back, but for now they're taking a break. The longest show I've ever attended (4 hours long) this show rattled my bones.
7. Interviewing, Meeting, Chilling, Recording Sister Crayon for NES Project.com - A truly unforgettable night all around. My feet never touched the ground.
8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 - We've been waiting years for this film to be made and WOW did it deliver. It was 15 minutes of catching you up then nothing but Wizard War for like 2 1/2 hours. EPIC!
9. Drive. Best $5 I'd spent this year. I had no idea this film was going to be what it was when I walked into it. That mask still haunts me to this day. I loved it.
10. 50/50 - This film paralyzed me with memories and visions of a life I've hopefully left behind. Truly personal and touching in every way.
11. My little baby niece Kali was born. She is going to be a rock star.

dead anchoress at 12:22 PM Dec 29

@Marcey - I didn't expect much from Dylan Dog, but talk about a good premise gone to waste. And as for Vanishing - another movie with a cool concept but with poor execution. The threat of that movie was entirely unbalanced. It could kill you at any time regardless of what lights you have around you since they can clearly be fucked with. It was pretty much just killing off characters when it was served to move the story forward. Boo.

Ten Random/Dorky Facts About Me

Img_8027
1. Almost my entire wardrobe is comprised of shirts from Teefury, RIPT, and Shirt.woot.com
2. According to an online survey I'm at least 14% gay and I'm alright with that.
3. Case in Point: When I was about 11 my family had a yard sale. Finding a long, curly blonde wig and a long red dress, I suited up and took to the corner of the busiest intersection in town. We made a shit ton of money that day and my parents let me keep the majority of it for my efforts.
4. When I proposed to my wife I went all out and created a very fairy tale-like atmosphere upon which to do it. Being blindfolded and lead into the woods by the one you love was never so romantic.
5. My collection of movies, music, and comic books knows no bounds.
6. I used to breath backwards. Seriously, my heart valves were reversed at 3 months then reversed again 3 years later. Scary shit.
7. I sing songs to my cat every day.
8. I've also crafted about 100.000,000 nicknames for said cat.
9. I have my own comic book website talkingcomicbooks.com
10. I once tripped out (because of) while having a 104 degree fever. I was watching Ghost in the Shell, when suddenly the screen of my television began to leak. The color washed all over my room and body turning me into a living anime character. I got to see myself in the mirror for probably 3 seconds and it was amazing. Shortly after that I went to the hospital because well, those kinds of things just aren't supposed to happen.

10 Personal Reasons K Stew is the Wrong Choice for Snow White

Kristen-stewart-smoking-pot
1. You can't have the same actress who represents one of history's worst characters (Bella) also portray that of one of its greatest.
2. She is the face of the character who told young women to swoon for the vampire instead of fearing it.
3. She's already the face of another major (and active) franchise, we don't need to confuse people.
4. She can't act. I don't know what you consider acting but what she got ain't it.
5. Snow White is emotional, beautiful, and magical. Kristen Stewart might as well be wearing a paper bag over her face with the emotions drawn on.
6. Sharing the same screen as Charlize Theron? Don't make me die of laughter.
7. By having her in the movie you're telling your audience. "Yeah, we know you love Twilight. Come check us out."
8. She was shit in Adventureland so don't come at me with that movie as a bullet to your loaded gun that will only shoot blanks.
9. She probably thinks she's doing a movie about Cocain.
10. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE would have been a better choice.

Top 10 Reasons I Love the Video Game: Dark Souls

Darksouls
1. The sheer magnitude (pop pop!) of the quest. For real, I've been at this for nearly 50 hours and am only about halfway through the game. Amazing.
2. The only difficulty setting is HARD!
3. It's Dungeons & Dragons without all the chatter.
4. It's a lone quest. You are the only hope humanity has.
5. The landscapes and dungeons are breathtaking. This is not a mere dungeon-crawler. This game boasts an infinite amount of depth.
6. The game doesn't need a bunch of bells and whistles to sell itself.
7. Every death is fair. It's your own fault and you know it.
8. There are boss battles around every other corner. Huge, ridiculous beasts just waiting to tear you a new asshole.
9. Losing everything. What's the biggest frustration in the game is also one of the things I love most about it. It teaches me to not take my progress for granted.
10. Variety. You could never build the same character twice. Everything from the enemy types to the locations and secret rooms are forever changing.

WP-DFA at 07:32 PM Oct 23

7 - maybe I'll have to check it out. The games I was talking about back on PS1 that pissed me off were games that were just cheap, though then again that may just be my point of view :P

wish they had a demo of either of these games arrgh lol

You would never be able to appreciate this game in a demo. Every area you enter is just the tip of a VERY big iceberg.

10 Ways To Know Whether You're Really Into the Movie You're Watching or Not

Meh-cat
1. When choosing the movie you say to yourself, "Meh. I might as well."
2. You pay more attention to your computer screen than the film itself.
3. You're constantly checking the run time on the film.
4. You don't mind answering phone calls or text messages while the film is still on.
5. When you go to the kitchen for a snack and someone offers to pause the film and you say, "Nah."
6. During the film you start thinking about all the things you can do when it's over.
7. You're already formulating a negative review inside your head while watching it.
8. You become the king/queen of the peanut gallery.
9. You lament the idea of what you could have chosen to watch.
10. Simple. You get up, walk across the room, and pop in another movie entirely.
YoshioKun13
YoshioKun13 at 12:32 PM Oct 17

True on all accounts.

However, you don't get the luxury of most of these while watching a movie in the theater. :/

Vampjezzc
Vampjezzc at 12:34 PM Oct 17

Perfection. What is sad is that most of the time I fulfill all of this criteria, it is rare for a movie to keep me that enthralled.

#3 is a constant action for me when a movie doesn't capture me. I'm just asking the movie to get on with it.

MFC Halloween Survey

Fear1
1. What animals are you afraid of? I'm much more afraid of insects than any animal that comes to mind.
2. Are you afraid of clowns?- Afraid wouldn't be the word I would use. I'm more unnerved by them if anything.
3. Are you claustophobic- To a certain degree, yes.
4. What urban legends scared you as a kid (or now)? Bloody Mary. Mirrors have always struck me as odd and I've never fully trusted anything I've seen inside them. The idea of a vicious killer being born from one is enough to make me not want to chant the words.
5. Do you have any phobias? I can't be in large crowds unless there is music. I also have a mild fear of hospitals.
6. What else are you afraid of - losing those that I love the most.
7. Do you believe in any cryptozoologic creatures? Absolutely. There are also some major shit going down deep at the bottom of the ocean floor.
8. What movies scared you as a kid? Honestly, not much. I was raised on Horror films since I was 3 years old and my father had always explained to me exactly what they were. By wanting so badly to share them with me he had taken much of the fear away by presenting them to me as an art form.
9. What movies scared you as an adult? Insidious. It hits far too close to home. I used to live in a real haunted house.
10. Favorite Universal Monster- Wolfman and Frankenstein.
11. Favorite fictional horror villain- Freddy Kruger!
12. Favorite real life serial killer - Countess Bathory
13. Have you ever experienced the paranormal?- Yes. Yes. And yes.
14. What would you do if you thought your house was haunted?- Move, which is what we ended up having to do.
15. Are you superstitious- Meh. I'm not persay but I don't go out of my way to test the limits of what I can piss off, spiritually speaking.

@darknite - Batman: TWG was excellent! I'm really hoping Smith gets back to it soon and gives us a Part 2.

Also, Animal Man is so awesome. I had no idea what to expect when it was recommended to me by a friend. I read it and loved the concept. I'm surprised I'd never heard of him until now. Swamp Thing was also a very good read. It didn't make it to my Top 5 of the New 52 but I am still eagerly awaiting the next issue none the less.

10 Things I Love About Community

Avengers
1. The Ending Credits - I love when a show gives us just a litle bit more content than just ending the program with a quick scrolling of text on a black background.
2. Troy and Abed - One of the best Bromances in television history.
3. Annie's boobs. Annie's actual boobs, not the monkey.
4. Dean Pelton's sexual abiguity. Hilarious!
5. The special genre-specific episodes. It's a nice departure and they even treat them as events that play into the overall plot.
6. Pierce Hawthorn's racism. Sorry, but sometimes he is truly hilarious.
7. How they managed to create an essentially "one liner" character that never ceases to be funny. POP POP!
8. The show harkens back to the good old days when we learn a valuable lesson about friendship at the end of each episode.
9. John Goodman's echoing footsteps inside the halls of Greendale.
10. They sometimes give Donald Glover the opprotunity to let his rap skills come into play.

dead anchoress
dead anchoress at 08:07 PM Sep 02

@LelekPL - If you want to get the full enjoyment out of that film then you should read the book first. They go hand in hand. It's one of the single best transitions from book to film that I've ever experienced. The film serves almost as a Part 2 to the book, the opening scene being EXACTLY where they left you off at the end of the novel. I love creature features and the house was absolutely magnificent. I'm a big person on sets and atmosphere. If you don't read the book I could see people only "liking" it or possibly thinking that it sucked, but if you do take the time to read it you just may end up loving it.

Top 10 Life Lessons I Learned From Fight Club

Fight-club-19
1. Only after disaster can we be resurrected.
2. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't.
3. It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.
4. You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your fucking khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world.
5. On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.
6. The things you own end up owning you.
7. Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken.
8. Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing. Like the first monkey shot into space.
9. Self improvement is masturbation. Now self destruction ...
10. It could be worse. A woman could cut off your penis while you're sleeping and toss it out the window of a moving car.

Murder Mystery - Superhero Edition Character Profile

Plague_doctor_dark_hunter
1. Name: Caduceus
2. Real Name: Lazarus Castiel
3. Powers: Along with the ability of flight, Caduceus amplifies his natural aura giving him the ability to heal the sick and wounded.
4. Tagline: The Doctor Is In!
5. Catchphrase: "This Will Only Hurt A Little!"
6. Role in the MFC (Mighty Fantastic Crew): The teams resident healer and tactician.
7. Greatest Achievement: After the devastation of the 9/11 attacks on his native New York City, it has been well documented that Caduceus himself, along with the aide of the NYFD, was responsible for saving the lives of hundreds who had sustained critical injuries.
8. Weaknesses: While being able to heal any and all things with his god-like abilities, the powers are nullified when used on himself. In addition to not being able to heal on his own, Caduceus cannot bring the dead back to life.
9. Coolest Merchandise: Who would have ever imagined that an action-figure in the guise of a Doctor would be such an inspiring hit with the children of cities across the world. There's even a line of hospital machines and supplies produced by his company: Lazarus Inc.
10. Origin Story: After seeking aid from a travelling gypsy woman, Lazarus rushed home to his ailing wife and daughter who lay fever ridden and weak in their beds. After arriving seconds too late to save both of the remaining members, and most cherished treasures of his world, Lazarus was nearly slain by grief. Unable to raise the dead, Lazarus then vowed that he would use his new abilities to help heal the sick and mend the world. Plagued with the ghosts of his wife and child always nearby, Caduceus wears the mask of the Plague Doctor to hide the shame of his failure to his family. Lazarus has joined the MFC in the hopes that through their actions he may be able to use his gift on a more global level.

Murder Mystery Character Info

Janitor
1. Name: Dead Anchoress "The Right-Hand Man"
2. Age: 54
3. Would be Played By in a Movie: Steve Buscemi
4. Basic Info: To everyone on set, he's just the guy who sweeps the floors. To the studio head, he's the guy who buries the studio secrets...no matter how deep they need to go.
5. Aspirations: To finally become an actor in one of Funkhausers films. While attending night acting classes Anchoress dreams of one day strutting his stuff on screen. It's the land of opprotunity after all, and it's never too late.
6. Fears: That one day the company will discover the many objects and personal belongings that have gone missing from the set over the many years are actually a part of a "private" collection ... Anchoress keeps at home in the attic crawl space.
7. Strengths: Resourceful, a master electrician, very book smart, and has a wide knowledge of how movies are made.
8. Weaknesses: Rather quiet and just a little bit creepy. Everyone has come to love Anchoress over the years but there has always been something rather odd about the man.
9. Why They Could Be a Killer: Revenge. Too many times Anchoress has been handed his mop rather than a script. Friend for years, Funkhauser has always been aware of the mans talent but has never been willing to give him an honest shot in any role.
10. Remember...: Never to forget to thank all the "little people".

Thoughts on the Sony Playstation Conference of E3 2011

Sony_logo
1. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception looks fantastic!
2. Resistance 3 looks to be alright but the second installment never really wowed me. That ending was just atrocious.
3. $499 3-D TV Bundle = MEGA WOOT!!!
4. Kobe Bryan'ts shit is weak. It must be nice to get paid a shit ton of money to come on stage for 5 minutes and totally suck at playing your own game.
5. Medievil Moves needs polish but my wife was giddy about it.
6. Infamous 2 really does look kinda sweet.
7. Finally some leaps forward for the Playstation Move! It's about time!
8. Starhawk looks like just another space marine shooter. Pass!
9. New Sly Cooper could be fun. I love a good platformer.
10. Dust 514 is a SUPER ambitious project and I'd be very curious to see if they can pull it off right out of the gate.
11. Bioshock Infinite looks incredible!
12. SSX!!!!
13. New Star Trek looks impressive
14. $249.99 price tag for the PSVITA is fair and a smart move for Sony
Righteous_faustus
Righteous_faustus at 10:13 PM Jun 06

#3 was the biggest surprise for me because I've read nothing about it and with a screen that size and it's capability not to mention price that along with the PSVita stole the show for me. Oh and it was reallly nice to see some Bioshock there too

drc5145
drc5145 at 10:28 PM Jun 06

It was definitely better than Microsoft's conference. Uncharted 3 looked awesome. Kobe was awkwardly funny. Medieval Moves actually doesn't look bad. Bioshock Infinite indeed looks incredible and I was shoked to hear they're developing for the Vita...

...Speaking of which, the Vita price and release date is the biggest shocker to me. $250 is a pretty competitive price with the 3DS and both companies are going to lay down the gauntlet this holiday season. Interesting to see what Ninty announces for the 3DS to counter the Vita.

WP-DFA
WP-DFA at 02:21 AM Jun 07

8 - another space marine shooter? well come on are there really that many of them? That's besides the point though, I think it looks like it could be really good. I was really disappointed when they revealed it initially but that new trailer they showed here was bad ass.

Thoughts About the Ubisoft Press Conference of E3 2011

Ubilogo
1. Rayman Origins looks like a lot of co-op fun!
2. Mr. Caffeine is an absolutely obnoxious spokesman.
3. Assasin's Creed: Revalations looks like the next logical step for the franchise and the locations are phenomenal!
4. I've never played a Tom Clancy game before but I might have to check out the new one coming out.
5. A free Ghost Recon: Future Soldier game for the PC? I'll take that action.
6. The presentation of Far Cry 3 was way awkward. Johnny Late On the Spot with that bleep button ;)
7. Kinect Raving Rabids could end up being some fun when it hits the pre-owned rack.
8. Dancing games still aren't my thing. I find it hard to get excited about these games at all.
9. No announcement of Beyond Good and Evil 2 is a HUGE disappointment!

Warner Bros., The Kennedy/Marshall Co., and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way are in the early stages of rebooting the franchise by re-adapting Michael Ende’s novel of the same name. Best Memories of - Deftones @ Best Buy Theater NYC - 5/13/11

Deftones_live
1. The Volume - Holy shit were the Deftones LOUD last night! So much so that this seasoned veteran dinosaur will be packing his earplugs tonight as to not do further damage to my left ear.
2. The Visuals - Deftones have really stepped up the visual presentation of their performance on this tour. Backdrops that span the entire stage coupled with film reels, animations, and trippy light effects make this particular outing a treat for the eyes.
3. The Songs - Wow! Talk about a mixed bag last night. The band pulled tracks from every album and each and every song sounded spectacular!
4. A Hilarious Chino Moreno? - Chino was in rare form last night. I've seen this band a number of times in the past but have never heard Chino behave so playfully and become downright funny on the mic between songs.
5. The Pit - People still remember that the Deftones are hardcore and bodies flying in the air is a nice touch from the crowd.
6. The Venue - Best Buy Theater is a fine place to see a show. It's big but not too big and the sound carries tremendously inside it's walls. Top notch stuff.
7. The Energy - Aside from the band sounding amazing, each and every member of the band was alive and rocking the fuck out. I love when you can see the passion of a persons art being poured from the stage.
8. Epic Meet Up - Running into one of the dudes from Epic Meal Time outside of the venue while waiting for my escort was pretty boss. He was totally cool and embracing of my love for their web show. Fun Fact* The key to any good meal is bacon and more bacon.
9. Dillinger Passenger Plan - Although it wasn't Maynard James Keenan, Greg Puciato of Dillinger Escape Plan joined the Deftones on stage for the best live version of the song Passenger that I've heard so far.
10. Great Company - I love my Brooklyn crew. My best friends. It's always nice to enjoy a kick ass show with such amazing people. Can't wait to go again tonight and bring my other, better half. Cheers!
SonnyBonoWigDo
SonnyBonoWigDo at 04:38 PM May 14

that sounds like one awesome evening. i haven't seen Chino since Team Sleep made their run in the area. very cool DEP was the opener.

by chance have you ever heard their ep Irony is a Dead Scene? it's 4 songs of them with Mike Patton, including a cover of Come to Daddy by Aphex Twin.

dead anchoress
dead anchoress at 03:24 PM May 15

I remember catching Team Sleep at the old Knitting Factory when they were around. It was a shame that Chino was so fucking drunk that the rest of the band had to carry him for the entire performance. It was like watching a really poor rehearsal than an actual concert performance. That Team Sleep album is very dear to my heart and it was a real let down to see Chino is such a state.

I have not heard the Irony is a Dead Scene ep yet. I'm not always the biggest fan of Patton's work. I find him to be very overrated at times. But I'd be curious to check it out regardless. Thanks for reading, man. Much appreciated.

10 Things I Loved About Portal 2 on the Xbox 360

Glados2
1. GLaDOS - Hands down, she has got to be my most feared video game character. There is something about the calm disposition that she retains while voicing her threats that just cuts me to the bone.
2. The Music - There isn't too much music in Portal 2, but when the tension ramps up and tunes begin to filter in, the whole sound is very Daft Punk/Tronish and it's just perfect for the games atmosphere.
3. Everything's Gone To Shit - I love the delapidated condition of the testing facility. It really gives you the impression that an undeterminable amount of time has passed.
4. The Humor - Portal has always been known for it's comedic overtones and Portal 2 does not disappoint on the crude and sadistic laughter at your own expense.
5. John Jay Jameson - J.K. Simmons plays a major part in the testing highjinks toward the later parts of the game and adds to the laughter quite nicely. He fits right in to the world of Portal.
6. New Puzzles - While I don't think it took too long for me to figure out the puzzles themselves, each room was fun to navigate and I didn't lose any sleep over what to do.
7. New Testing Implements - The multicolored gel, the bouncers, and light pathways were all a welcomed edition to this sequel to help ramp up the fun and frustration of solving the puzzles.
8. New Enviroments - Although I wish there were more of it, I really enjoyed seeing foliage and life outside of the cold white walls of the testing facility.
9. Two is Better Than One - The addition of local and online multi-player was a really smart move. It expands the game length, lets you work together with a friend to sove puzzles that are decidely harder than the single player versions, and with the promise of downloadable testing rooms it appears that the game could go on for quite a while.
10. The Price - While this might not seem like that big a deal, I'm always pleased when I see a title that doesn't bolster the $59.99 price tag. For a rudementary game such as Portal it's nice to know that Valve realize that charging to full amount would just be robbery. It's also a good way to move more titles. The $5 hit goes a long way.
dead anchoress
dead anchoress at 02:53 PM May 10

Yeah - I had a previous subject heading with the title of the console in it and I am a lazy man today. Also, I figure that letting people know what system I was playing it on gives them a sense of perspective in case there was something different about their version that they could clue me in on. Sometimes games that are released for multiple consoles have slight differences.

10 Things I Loved About Crysis 2 on the Xbox 360

Crysis-2
1. The Suit - The ability to both cloak yourself and amp your armor made for hours and hours of hardcore stealthy mayhem.
2. The Weapons - I don't think I came across one weapon that I didn't use extensively while playing through the game. Shit, for half of Supersoldier mode I was a ghost with a silenced pistol. Pop pop, bitches!
3. The Graphics - By far this is one of the most impressive titles across all platforms. The Cry Engine 3 system is a powerhouse and it really shines on this title.
4. New York City, Baby! - Nothing like strapping on the suit and walking down the broken avenues and demolished bridges of my home town.
5. The Controls - The game handles like a dream. Everytime that I died I knew that it was my fault, never having the excuse that the game was unresponsive to my commands.
6. The Music - Hanz Zimmer laid down a pretty epic score for this game. While some of the smaller arrangements seem to repeat perhaps a bit too often the songs are still epic and fit the mood of the game.
7. The Enviroments - The graphic engine really went to work on the lush plant life and broken down cities. Everything moved when you walked through it and chunks of debris would break off building walls. Awesome!
8. The Voice of the Suit - Totally appropriate voice work of this monsterously deep mechanical voice that would alert you of the abilities you were currently using.
9. The Choke and Throw - There ain't nothin like grabbing a guy by the throat and hucking him into the great beyond just to hear him scream.
10. The Multi-Player - Fast, Dangerous, and total bullshit! Ha ha! Seriously though, it's a lot of fun.
dead anchoress
dead anchoress at 09:42 PM Apr 17

I've enjoyed it more than Dead Space 2 as well ... which I still have to finish. I'm such a game hopper.

As far as the story goes, it's really all the militaristic stuff that is a turn off for me. I love the idea of being the last line of defense against "X" but with all the "Hoorah!" and people yelling at me to do stuff while I'm taking care of business gets on my nerves. Which is odd because I really got into Gears of War 2 when I was playing it.

I've never been able to get myself in the Halo franchise. I played through the first two games and never quite understood the appeal. I know that there is a MAJOR following for it, and lots of fiction outside the game as well as comics and webisodes ... but the leap and shoot mechanic of the multi-player just makes me sad. I actually wouldn't be opposed to trying out Reach if I can find it for a nice price.

I'm totally ready for Portal 2 now that I've beaten Crysis. Now it's time to wrap up some achievements and get my ass handed to me online.

Rebellion_Reborn
Rebellion_Reborn at 10:00 PM Apr 17

I HIGHLY recommend Reach. It is the game that just keeps on giving.

Portal 2 unfortunately is going to be on hold for a bit for me. The old school arcade rat in me is demanding the new Mortal Kombat. And then there's L.A. Noire in May so...

dead anchoress
dead anchoress at 12:54 AM Apr 18

I hear you. Portal 2 will be a quick run for me I think. I smoked the first one and action/puzzle games are kind of my forte. I'm looking forward to seeing how they've expanded the premise and I can't wait to use the portals to navigate some worlds with actual vegetation rather than just the stale office like corridors of the first game.

10 Personal Masterpiece Films

Summer-wars
1. The Big Lebowski - Walter reminds me of my father, I could very well be The Dude, and it hits the mark for me on all fronts. A stoner slueth story. LOVE!
2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - I walked into this movie sober and left the theater high out of my mind. Powerfully funny and a true depiction of one of my personal heros.
3. The Fisher King - Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams give the performances of their career in this touching tale directed by Terry Gilliam of a ruined Radio DJ and his quest to save his new found friend from his haunted past. Emotional and beautiful in every way.
4. Summer Wars (Anime) - Just this year one of the absolute best films I've ever seen has been released in GORGEOUS Blu-Ray. This film pushes your HD TV to the breaking point with it's lush enviroments, startling colors, and a story as poingnant and gripping as any major blockbuster film.
5. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles - A staple film in my family for as long as I can remember. I watch this film at least two or three times a year and it never ceases to make me laugh and bring about cherished memories of when I would laugh with my father.
6. The Shining - By far my favorite Kubrick film. This was the first movie that truly kept me up at night when I was little. The woman in the bathtub, the costumed lovers, twins, and ghostly residents of the hotel all haunt my dreams to this day.
7. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1983) - One of the only ways we are able to escape our harsh realities is the sweet embrace of slumber. A demon that can kill you in your sleep, I couldn't think of anything more terrifying.
8. Blood: The Last Vampire (Anime) - At a run time of only 48 minutes this film manages to run the entire spectrum of what makes dark anime fun to watch. The slick art coupled with a jazz inspired soundtrack create a terrifying Halloween atmosphere that has been entertaining me for years. I'm always in the mood for this one.
9. Labrinyth - Such a gorgeous gem of the 80's when we still had Jim Henson taking the reigns and creating worlds unlike no other. Like every child's pretend fantasies come to life on the big screen. This movie is timeless.
10. Santa Sangre - Also a recent watch, this film hit me like a truck. Beutiful directing, a love story for the ages, and enough fucked up metaphors to keep my brain spinning.

My Video Game Resume

Mono_and_wander
1. Favorite Game: Shadow of the Colossus
2. Favorite Series: Silent Hill
3. Favorite System: Xbox 360
4. Favorite Character: The Wanderer
5. Favorite Action/Adventure Game: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
6. Favorite Sports Game: NHL 2001 (Playstation)
7. Favorite Racing Game: Mario Kart Double Dash (Gamecube)
8. Favorite Shooter: Rez (Playstation 2)
9. Favorite RPG: Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction
10. Favorite Strategy/Puzzle Game: Little Big Planet (Playstation 3)
11. Favorite Fighting Game: Powerstone (Dreamcast)
12. Favorite Hero: Link - Any man who has the time to look for rupies in the grass or go fishing while the world is ending is one smooth bastard. He's got the best toys and he gets the job done.
13. Favorite Boss: Pyramid Head (Silent Hill Franchise)
14. Favorite Scene/Level: The moment in Shadow of the Colossus when you still believe yourself to be traversing the land when suddenly, the earth begins to shift, you loose your footing and realize that for the past 10 minutes you've actually been climbing on a majestic beautiful beast that you now must kill to save your love.
15. Funnest Game: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (Local Multi-Player)
16. Craziest Game: Burnout: Nitrous Oxide (Playstation)
17. Favorite Hottie/Hunk: Morrigan of the Darkstalkers franchise
18. Most Overrated Game: Mortal Kombat/Tekken/Virtua Fighter Franchises - There is no flow. Each one of them plays like it's own piece of shit. Stiff, specific combo oriented, cheap iterations in the series, and frustrating to memorize ... not learn, memorize.
19. I've never played: Duke Nukem. I know a lot of people are super psyched about his return, but this gamer could care less.
20. Toughest Game: Rez HD (XBOX Live Arcade) I slayed this game on the PS2 years ago, but the difficulty of the new HD version has been jacked through the roof and I can't make it past the third boss. Unacceptable!
21. Least Favorite System: XBOX - It was an ugly machine that produced some of the most forgetable titles in my gaming career.
22. Favorite personal story: As a reward for winning a fishing pool on a charter boat earlier that day, my father took his winnings and treated me to an afternoon at Nathan's Restaurant. Minutes later a wager was placed between my father and this guy on whether or not I could beat him at Street Fighter 2. I defeated him and my father doubled his winnings, later treating me to two games from Toys R Us to play at home. It was a great day and one of my fondest early memories of my Dad.

@ Yoshio - I knew you would. I'm not sure that Pyramid Head would really be considered a Boss but it was either that or every Colossi in Shadow of the Colossus, so there you have it. Pyramid Head is just so damn iconic. The Hallway sequence in Silent Hill 2 is unforgettable!

Dead Island can really go either way. I really like the screen shots that I've seen so far. The lighting and character models look awesome. The emphasis on melee combat is also a huge plus for me because if there were ever to be a zombie outbreak the last thing I would want are guns. I just hope that the trailer didn't blow things out of proportion. I can already hear the bitching of fanboys in my ears about how the game doesn't live up to the trailer. Lame.

Also, as cool as Left for Dead was I felt that it got old real quick. I was super bored with LFD2 within days of owning it. Talk about a series that was just more of the same with perhaps a few tweaks. Obviously, if it isn't broke, don't fix it but there just wasn't enough there for me to want to come back again and again. I'm hoping that Dead Island turns out to be the zombie game that I want to play.

girlcreeture
girlcreeture at 02:28 PM Mar 31

Yeah, Dead Island has quite a bit of potential so I still have hopes for it. I agree with you on the melee aspect as well, it's ALWAYS fun to hack and slash.

The melee was a great addition to L4D2, which I really cannot get enough of. It's the simplicity of the game that keeps me addicted. Being able to just turn it on and blast away without having to worry about saves and stuff... I do wish Valve would be less stingy with DLC though. It seems like DLC comes out on the initial release of games and then just poops out. I have no idea why more game developers don't go nuts with DLC in order to keep gamers satiated and the game itself fresh and I can't imagine it's that complicated or time consuming to pump out a new level 2-3 times a year right? L4D gets more love on the PC with the gamer maps and online multiplayer but I've always preferred solo gameplay so part of the loss is my own fault.

Back to Dead Island, that trailer, it really is pretty damn awesome so I would understand a degree of bitchiness if the game doesn't deliver at least the same feel of it but you really can't expect a game to 100% mirror a trailer.

@tbondrage - I've seen this list on a few profiles and it seems like a lot of duplicates in actor names but different character roles... Is that how this list works - copy the actor names but change the roles you enjoy? What if you don't like a certain actor?

Not that I plan to do this. ;) As mentioned above, it is long and a lot of work. Just curious about its origin...

@kdt42, Yeah list the actor and your favorite role of theirs. If you don't like a certain actor (I'm not a Jennifer Aniston fan at all) then I picked the movie they were in that I enjoyed the most.

~ Top 10 Things From My Childhood That I Miss About Movie Magic ~

Crying-child1
1. Imagination - I miss the days where film firsts were running rampant on the big screen. Now that so much time has passed through the generations of film makers, it's hard not to find reflections of other films in nearly every release. So few are truly original and groundbreaking.
2. When Kids Were Kids - Nowadays it seems like child actors are acting less and less like their age. I miss when a child in a film was truly frightened or was just there to have a good time, never having a need to exude adult like tendencies to make them appear beyond their years.
3. Fantasy Films - This is my favorite genre of film making and there simply does not seem to be enough of it going on these days. Where is the next Neverending Story or Labyrinth?
4. Puppets and Animatronics - I miss the talent and craftsmenship that went into each and every project involved with this art. It was a time when Jim Henson was king and we had tangible characters on screen interacting with our characters and heroes.
5. Real or Recreated Sets - Green Screen has opened up so many doors for film, but it has also been responsible for closing many others. Again, I miss the craftsmenship of a great set, or having a film shot on site at the very location we're being taken to.
6. Prominent Make Up Artists - In what has become such an underused and underappreciated aspect of the film industry. Open wounds, battle damage, highlighting someone's beauty, exaggerating features ... so much more magical when it isn't digitally drawn in.
7. Real Blood - Digital blood is without a doubt one of my most hated film trends of the past 10 or so years. I know it's easier and more cost effective, but it looks like shit and I don't like it, so there.
8. Truly Hilarious On Screen Duos - Steve Martin and John Candy, Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Jonah Hill and Michael Cera? Paul Rudd and Steve Carell? Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly? Maybe ... nah. Not even close.
9. When Movies Were Funny - Humor is such an objective thing and completely rests on the shoulders of the personality of the viewer but I'll be damned if I've laughed harder at something besides Jackass 3-D in years! Movies that are supposed to be HILARIOUS just don't deliver like they used to.
10. When Trailers Didn't Show You The Whole Movie - It used to be that if you wanted to know what a movie was about, you actually had to get up off your ass and get to the theater to see it. These days the trailers are so damn long that you've practically been shown the entire arc of the story not to mention all the WOW moments or funny lines. This is part of the reason why I do so many "Blind Watch" movies and never read the inside cover of novels.

Bravo, fucking, bravo!!!!! Everything you just stated is exactly what I was thinking. I couldn't have said it better, myself! Also, I have to say that I think #2 is my biggest gripe!! If they don't want the child actors to act like children, then they should've just cast a freaking adult for crying out loud!!! PET PEEVE!!!! And, as far as #s 3 - 7 go, I swear a lot of the ol' Hollywood magic got sucked dry over the years... the well needs to be replenished, big time! Love this list!!

@Sonny - That's pretty awesome. Must be a thrill for you seeing her videos, having a personal connection to someone in that line of work is a bit of an odd vantage point. I have an old friend from high school who did a few scenes under the name Serene Dream ... unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as hot as ... well, anything really. : /

My Top 10 Fantasy Jobs in the Movie Industry

Illust_fear
1. Voice Over Actor - Showing up to work in your pajamas, you don't have to act on camera, and you get to play with your voice all day!
2. Special Effect Make-Up Artist - As long as I can remember I've always wanted to be the one to design/apply zombie/monster make-up to the stars. Everything about this job sounds amazing to me.
3. Puppeteer - Who wouldn't want to master the art of bringing inanimate characters to life through the power of gesture and suggestion?
4. Director - Crafting a film according to my personal vision and specifications? What a thrill!
5. Screenwriter - To be confident enough in my writing skills to create a cinematic masterpiece would be a major feather in my cap.
6. Cinematographer - One of my absolute favorite aspects of film is lighting, filters, art direction. Changing the cinematography can tell a whole nother story within a movie. What power!
7. Composer - Duh! Music is my life. To create the soundtrack or score of a film would be nothing short of a wet dream come true.
8. Costume Designer - I've always admired this aspect of the film industry. Such amazing attention to detail and creative vision. Thumbs up!
9. Sound Designer - Oh man! To know the boards like these people do. To have such a keen ear for sound to be able to layer and mix them one on top of the other for a perfect mix that brings the audience into the film would be such an amazing experience and contribution.
10. Casting Director - To be the guy that calls around and offers the stars their chance to make history on the big screen with a role that will possibly make or break their career = FUN!
11. (Post a picture of the film you would most love to have been involved with) Mine: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

1. First Name (if you're cool with that)? Steve/Lazarus :)
2. Explanation of Your MFC Name? It's an old pen name I used to use when I was writing in college. I like the way it sounds.
3. Movie Character You Can Relate With the Most? Raoul Duke.
4. Most Hated Movie Character? Bella Swan. Her and that sparkly pedophile are the faces of a generation of young minds who no longer fear the vampire but swoon for it? Fuck that!
5. Boo Radley? Boo Radley will kick your ass!
6. Do You Know Any Other Schmoes IRL? Kitty Green is my lovely and beautiful wife. I've also known sixthcircle and Kazeth1112 for 15/16 years.
7. How Long Have You Been On MFC? About 7 months
8. How Did You Hear About MFC? I've been following Joblo.com for several years and was always aware of MFC when it was released. But it took my wife becoming an avid contributor to help me pay more attention to my dormant profile.
9. Where Was Your Profile Pic Taken? I took that photo using my camera phone. It's an original character I created about a year ago named Bat-Cat
10. Favorite Animated Character? Archimedes the Owl from The Sword in the Stone - "Man will fly alright ... just like a rock!"

14. What Movie Would You Live In If You Could? Either the World of Harry Potter or the Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus
15. Ever Meet A Celebrity? Lots actually. And if you want to include musicians we very well may be here for a while. I've got stories.
16. Dont You Think It's Fucking Obnoxious That Those Little Shit Kids Always Try And Take Lucky's Lucky Charms? Lucky needs to wise the fuck up and so does that rabbit! Enough is enough. They're always busy making rainbows and painting things that come to life to entertain those little brats. Have that rainbow end over a cliff or paint yourself some knives and start the murders you dumb ass rabbit!
17. What Picture Are You Attaching To This? A picture of a friends daughter this past Halloween. Just trying to do something different. :)

10 Manly Things About Me (I'm breaking my own rule and getting a little personal with this one)

45046_1537338548700_1091944529_31593223_8170488_n
1. I’ve flat lined 14 times in my life and I’m still ALIVE!
2. As a child I was frozen for 58 minutes. Cheating brain damage by two. Manly!
3. My chest has been ripped open 3 times and my heart operated on twice. Still pumping!
4. I signed myself out of the hospital early with my intestines on the outside of my body just so I could see Tool live for the first time.
5. I cook like a fucking BOSS! You’ve seen some of my Movie Meals, that’s just the tip of the manly ice berg, an ice berg made of MEAT!
6. The first time I fired a Shotgun and an Uzi I was 7 years old. My Dad held me from behind to brace me of the recoil, but still. Dead eye!
7. I cheer and give standing ovations for movies with an absurdly high body count.
8. I can drink Whiskey like it’s water and handle it like a champ. Go Irish!
9. I’ve got a beard 24/7 that people both fear and respect.
10. The manliest thing of all? I’m a DAMN good husband and I LOVE MY WIFE! Honesty, compassion, humility, and companionship. That’s what makes a man. All of this other stuff is just that … stuff.

I've seen some things, and some stuff. I wouldn't recommend it. Haha. Yeah, I almost deleted this entry several times at the fear of sounding dramatic or not running with the "Just for fun" lightheartedness of other entries, but you know what? I am damn proud of who I am and no list will ever change that. Thanks for indulging me this once. You're all awesome.

I think the HK stuff really peaked in the early 2000's.

Universe Laser consistently put out good releases (I believe it's their release of SS I'm missing but it's been so long!) and the Mei Ah stuff is pretty good. I pretty much stuck with them along with Media Asia. And not just for HK films, they put out good releases of Korean and Japanese stuff too for kickin' prices!

girlcreeture
girlcreeture at 09:21 AM Jan 24

I seriously havent bought HK in a long while. I used to make bulk orders of 5-12 movies for myself along w/a friend who would order the same amount. I always shopped at DDDHouse and 1 other place that I totally forget the name of (>__<).

They had awesome prices on everything (HK$ to US was kickin!) but last time I perused them things had of course gone up.

Mary-Kate and Ashley are sweet girls. While I don't condone a thing they do when I worked with them on the project they were always very polite and didn't exactly match the persona that's been created for them. Ashley was edgy and actually had good taste in music while Mary-Kate was always very aloof but at the same time very go with the flow. Go figure.

10 Things I Enjoyed about the Golden Globes (2011)

Golden-globe
1. Emma Stone being the most stunning young actress in the building. Class, beauty, and smile that could brighten the darkest day.
2. Katey Segal finally winning best supporting actress for her role on Sons of Anarchy. The big smile and enthusiastic clapping from Ed O' Neil was endearing and priceless.
3. Michael C. Hall's beard. You're doin me proud, brotha! Represent the face fuzz!
4. Milla Jovovich looking so very very very very very hot!
5. Steve Buscemi taking home best actor for a television show. I haven't seen all of Boardwalk Empire but it was great to see this man be recognized for his chops. I have mad love for him, always.
6. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross winning for best soundtrack. Reznor returns to the spotlight for creating a wonderful score to a great and poiniant film. When the man writes beautiful music and keeps his whiney mouth shut he can be pretty remarkable.
7. Toy Story 3 for the animation win! My movie of the year, enough said.
8. Exchange of hungry eyes between Robert Downey Jr. and Emma Stone. He's a man of taste. I think the director of the awards deserves his own award for panning over and catching those complimentary reactions. Good eye.
9. Jim Parsons wins for best comedic actor on a television show! The excitement and exchange between him and his co-star Kelly Cuoco was so freaking adorable.
10. Whoever was in charge of the "Wrap it Up" music button. You become more obnoxious with each year. Haha.

10 Reasons I Love Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Paul_kemp
1. Masterful Directing from Terry Gilliam: So many movies try to capture the sensation of succumbing to mind bending drugs and fail miserably. The first time I saw this movie in the theater I was sober as can be, but by the time the film was over I was as high as a kite just from the experience alone. I had to wait about 20 minutes in the parking lot before I was cool to drive.
2. A True Representation: A lot of people forget that Fear and Loathing is based on the true accounts of Hunter S. Thompson and his days as a reporter for Rolling Stone. Those were different times and the film reflected his journey with such precision it still blows my mind to this day.
3. Johnny Depp: The man did his homework. Talk about immersing yourself into a chartacter lock, stock, and barrel. His research, extent of recreating the personality of Thompson, and delivering an all around dazzling and believable performace as the drug addled American hero was the tops.
4. Benicio Del Toro: As your attorny I advice you to witness the perfect accomplice for all of Thompson's debauchery. "It's okay. Just admiring the shape of your skull."
5. Quotable!: Another film in my collection that has managed to leak into my everyday life and vocabulary amongst my friends who all celebrate this film. Just like The Big Lebowski, it's endless!
6. Soundtrack: Nothing like some Acid Rock and Psychodelic Brain Surgey tunes to get you in the mood to go on a drug fuled road trip. Masterful. "You want me to throw this into the tub when White Rabbit peaks?"
7. Flea: Flea of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers makes another brilliant cameo performance as the Hippie in the Bathroom. "Whaaaat's the trouble?"
8. The Colors: What a wonderful and alive color palate. Granted, Vegas will always be colorful, but Gilliam has a way of highlighting and excentuating color so almost as if to leave streaks across your minds eye. Gorgeous.
9. Multiple Watch Demand: You can't swallow this film in just one viewing. The dialogue is multi-multi-layered and it's super easy to miss some of the best lines even on the second or third watch. Hilarity ensues.
10. Back When Things Were Slantly: Fear and Loathing came along at a very experimental period of my later teenage years. There was a time (no more) when acid, ecstacy, and mushrooms were very tasty. The movie celebrated drugs as much as it informed you that they can be life threatening, overly intense, and that as much fun as they can be, you need to RESPECT them. Those days are long gone, but holy shit did I have a blast! Fear and Loathing takes me back to a time when I learned more about the world from a speckled dot of paper on my tongue then I ever did listening to those around me tell me how the world worked. Fools. Blind fools.

10 Reasons I Love The Big Lebowski

1998_the_big_lebowski_004
1. ORIGINAL ORIGINAL ORIGINAL!!!!!!
2. Walter Sobchak: Besides immediately reminding me of my father in so many ways, nearly every word out of his mouth makes me explode with laughter. Love John Goodman!
3. The Dude: It's like looking into a mirror. Haha.
4. The Soundtrack: The soundtrack has such an authentic and memorable feel that whenever I hear the tunes outside of the film I end up being immediately transported back to the big screen and am left with a smile on my face. We even walked out to "What Condition My Condition Was In" at our wedding reception.
5. Eternally Quotable: Seriously, how many amazing lines are in this film? It's endless.
6. The Stranger: Every movie should be narrated by Sam Elliot and his legendary mustache.
7. Jesus: A character who literally has just a few short moments in the film, he steals the show! 8 year olds, Dude.
8. Maude Lebowski: Disturbed, sexy, oddly hilarious, and willing to carry the future of Lebowski into the next generation. What a woman!
9. Deceptively Clever: It wasn't until one of my old English teachers in highschool pointed out to me that The Big Lebowski is essentially a detectives story that I really began to view it as such. After making this discovery I got to view the film from a whole new angle, realizing the genius of it all.
10. The Big Lebowski - A XXX Parody: Kimberly Kane as Maude - a wet dream come true!

Big Lebowski is my jam! O' Brother hit me from left field the first time I'd seen it and found it to be an absolute riot. I'd have to rewatch a lot of these to know that this list is accurate. But Lebowski will always remain at my top. "Eight year olds, Dude."
