Modern Warfare 2: Final Thoughts

I've wrapped up Modern Warfare 2 and can conclude that while the games is good, it is definitely not game of the year. The levels are highly detailed and nice to look at. Unfortunately, the game plays too much like an interactive movie rather than a FPS. If they wanted this to be an interactive movie they should have taken a page from the Heavy Rain/Indigo Prophecy playbook. In the case of this game, I was stuck playing through failed "scenes" over and over until I got the performance right. If Infinity Ward really wanted to make an interactive movie they should have allowed me to fail and the story could still progress.

I enjoy the game designers' willingness to kill off main characters and to test the boundaries of storytelling. Unfortunately, there were too many hiccups involving voiceover/text based storytelling and assuming that all players know the story. This game has a great story somewhere, its just not polished enough. The controls are ultra-tight and this translates perfectly to multiplayer. Too bad single player is nowhere near as free and exploratory as the multiplayer matches become.

Overall, I'd give this game a low 8... and that excludes a score for the multiplayer.

Maybe you can answer this ....

Finished this game last night - at least I assume I did because the credits started rolling. But when I checked my stats page, it says my solo campaign is only 50 percent finished.

I don't get this at all. The game appears finished - a bit too abruptly, to be honest - and if there's more to play I have no idea how to access it.

My guess if that you played on standard difficulty? If you beat the game on the next two difficulties you should get 100%. If you had a tough go on Normal... move along, the other two difficulties are typically maddening on COD games.
