Just watched The Handmaiden on Amazon, what did everyone think? I thought it was good and would probably play even better a second time, but I do think people need to settle down. It feels a lot like other movies I've seen and even plays out like some of them, well I guess except for the lesbian sex scenes.

The lesbian sex scenes are what elevated the film for me ;)

So I started a movie podcast earlier this year with a couple buddies of mine, we are the Cinephile's Digest podcast and are 5 episodes in (we record on a bi-weekly basis). Our newest episode was just posted today where we review Kong: Skull Island and Logan. We are a little slow in getting these posted but are going to try and make a better effort to get them up closer to when we record going forward. We are heavily influenced by the Film Junk Podcast and if you like them or need a new podcast to listen to, give us a try! You can find us on Sitcher, iTunes, and SoundCloud. Here is the SoundCloud link: https://m.soundcloud.com/cinephilesdigest/episode-5-kong-skull-island-and-logan Thanks in advance for listening! Any comments or feedback would be appreciated :)

I'm probably late to the party, but what did everyone think of GiTS? I ended up seeing it twice because I sat in the second row at the screening I went to the first time I saw it. Never again. I liked it but left the theater not completely satisfied. It was good for what it was and had impressive visuals and score. I can somewhat appreciate the simplicity of it and the fact that it's not bloated like all the other blockbusters out there, even though I wanted more at the same time. I'm going to check out the original anime tonight, it will be a first time watch for me.

My thoughts on it are pretty much exactly the same as yours. The visuals and overall design of it were fantastic...as was the score. But for whatever reason something felt like it was missing and I just assumed that something was lost in translation in adapting the original source material. I watched the original last night, though, and that turned out to not be the case because both movies are virtually the exact same, but the original is less impressive visually and maybe slightly more impressive in the story department. I wouldn't call either movie good, but when it comes to which of them I'd rather re-watch I think I'd have to choose the remake based solely on the fact that the visuals are more appealing and the music is better.

The new movie has literally, almost nothing to do with the original anime film other than the name, characters and bare basic premise.

Instead they pretty much just lifted the plot of the first ROBOCOP movie and wrapped a superficial GitS movie around it. I don't think the anime film is like the greatest thing I've ever seen, but it is a more original and superior effort indeed.

I saw a screening of Raw last night. It's not as grotesque as people are making it sound but it definitely has a few scenes that made me cringe. Overall, I really liked it and its nice to see a gross-out, somewhat campy horror film done in an artistic way. Off to see a screening of Life tonight!

I've been good! Going to try and get familiar with MFC again. It's sad seeing how many of my old friends on here left the site around the same time I did... :/

Is anyone not going to a midnight showing of TDKR? I got tickets for Saturday morning for a couple reasons...I have to work early on Friday, I hate Friday night showings because the audience is made up of mostly teenagers, and I wanted to wait for a few friends.

Just got done with Batman Begins...I honestly haven't seen it since it came out in theaters back in 2005 so it pretty much felt like a first-time watch. 2005 was a time when I was only a casual movie-goer. Holyfuckingshit, I think I may like Batman Begins a hair more than The Dark Knight.

Yeah dude! I hadn't seen it since it first came out either... I completely agree. It's so hard to pick.
