Review:

I really went into this movie with an open mind and not huge expectations but hope for it to be good. I have to say, it was kind of a let down. The story seemed to be just another mixed bag of the same used up jokes and cliches from the previous three movies. The movie was really predictable; I think I could of told you each time something was going to pop out at you and I knew the killer really early on. They really enjoyed mocking horror film remakes and sequels, and while funny the first movie or two, has kind of lost it’s irony for me. I also found the gore a bit overdone sometimes, almost as if they realized they could do more nowadays so they decided to show it off...[more]...

The Conspirator

The-conspirator-poster1

Written by: James D. Solomon
Cast: James McAvoy, Justin Long, Alexis Bledel, Evan Rachel Wood, Robin Wright, Kevin Kline, Jonathan Groff, Norman Reedus, Toby Kebbell, Tom Wilkinson
Studio: Roadside Attractions
Genre: Drama
Official Site:
Plot: “The Conspirator” is a true story about Mary Surratt, the only female charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. As the nation turns against her, she is forced to rely on her reluctant lawyer to help prove her innocence.

Review:

Much like “Valkyrie”, while I knew a small amount of the true events, I pretty much went into this movie with no prior knowledge of any of the events that took place to make it more interesting for myself. I was actually quite shocked at the end. I knew of John Wilkes Booth killing Lincoln, but I had no idea there were other conspirators. I hope more movies show up like this, where I actually learn something about our history...[more]...

Studio: Magnet Releasing
Genre: Action, Adventure, Crime, Thriller
Official Site: www.hobowithashotgun.com
Plot: “Hobo with a Shotgun” is about a hobo (obviously) who hops off a train to Hope Town. This town however, is anything but hopeful, as it is a crime filled violent mecca of awfulness. He tries to stay on his path and just pass through the town, but finds this an impossible task and soon takes to setting the streets straight, two shotgun shells at a time.

Review:

I have to tell you from the get go; this movie is not for everybody. I hope through watching trailers and reading anything about this movie, the people who have no desire to see this have jumped ship. Now on to more pressing matters; this movie is epic beyond belief. I have honestly never seen anything like this movie and it was amazing! I’ve seen a lot of movies and this one was probably the first time I’ve been overjoyed and completely disgusted at the same time, in fact I was overjoyed because I was disgusted. The stuff in this movie, I can’t even begin to describe and if this isn’t your type of movie, I’d probably sicken you or make you think less of me; however if it’s your type of movie, I don’t want to give anything away...[more]...

When she finally feels she’s ready, they push a button to alert the outside world and begin their mission to bring down Marissa Wiegler.

Review:

I have been excited to see this since I first saw the trailer months and months ago. I did get a little worried when it was promoted as much as it was; I’ve seen too many movies over promoted and end up being terrible. Luckily this was no such movie. This movie was amazing from beginning to end! I loved how it was shot, the musical score was brilliant and definitely helped out the movie, and the action was excellent. Saoirse Ronan as Hanna Heller, was epically amazing. She’s turned into quite the actress and I am definitely going to keep my eye out for her more often. She played a naive girl who is also a bad ass assassin perfectly, and that was no easy task. What I loved most about this movie however, was the story. It was well written, well executed, and perfectly shot.

I feel like I just praised this movie up and down too much, but honestly, it was exactly what I wanted it to be ~STRIKE THAT~ It was better than I wanted it to be. So I guess overall, what I am trying to say is, this is a must see movie, and I’d highly recommend it!

Rubber

Rubber-poster-3

Directed by: Quentin Dupieux
Written by: Quentin Dupieux
Cast: Stephen Spinella, Roxane Mesquida, Jack Plotnick, Wings Hauser
Studio: Magnet
Genre: Action, Comedy, Drama, Thriller
Official Site: www.rubberthemovie.com
Plot: “Rubber” is the story of a tire that has been abandoned in the desert, and suddenly and mysteriously comes to life. As he roams the bleak landscape, he discovers that he possesses terrifying telepathic powers that give him the ability to destroy anything he wishes without having to move. At first he is content to prey on small animals and various objects, but soon his attention turns to humans.

Review:

So this movie is super hard to explain and I guarantee this movie isn’t for most people. That being said, I loved it, and at the same time felt very at odds with it. I think this is a movie you’ve got to know what you’re getting into when you watch it, and in this case, it’s a movie about a tire that can blow people up with its mind. If you do plan on watching this, go into it expecting absolutely nothing. I don’t even know what else to say without giving anything away. Basically, this is probably one of the weirdest most messed up, almost slightly artsy movies I’ve ever seen.
So would I recommend this movie? I don’t really know. I think if you’re even considering it, you’re probably the type of person who should see it. However, if you’ve seen the trailer and your first thought was; “A movie about a tire? Seriously? That’s stupid.” Obviously, avoid this movie, because that is what it is. For me this movie was pure weird entertainment and a movie I can talk up to all my non-movie geek friends and sound super weird to. It is effing crazy, and I loved it!

Trying to escape the haunting and save their son, they move again only to discover that it was not their house that was haunted.

Review:

So I have to tell ya, this movie was incredulously enjoyable for me. I have not enjoyed a good horror movie in quite awhile. I think I enjoyed this almost as much as “Drag Me To Hell”. Normally I find horror movies with a PG-13 to be a bit underdone, as if they could’ve been a lot better if they were R. This movie however was quite the opposite; in fact I think I wouldntve liked it had they aimed for R. What I loved most was that this movie had some legitimate scares. Halfway into this movie I was gripping my seat excited and a bit worried for what was to come. This movie used classic unnerving scares, creepy sounds and tense situations to keep you invested, and I loved it for that...[more]...

The Green Hornet

Green-hornet-alternate

Directed by: Michel Gondry
Written by: Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg
Cast: Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz, Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos, Tom Wilkinson
Studio: Sony Pictures
Genre: Action, Comedy, Comic Book
Official Site: www.sonypictures.com/movies/thegreenhornet/
Plot: Tonight I bring you “The Green Hornet”, directed by Michel Gondry. I didn’t have a whole lot of hope for this honestly, but my curiousity was high enough and I figured it would at least be entertaining to watch. “The Green Hornet” is your typical superhero movie. It follows a guy who has wasted his life partying and living up the life of a billionaire’s son. When his father dies, his life is twisted upside down. While trying to figure out his life, he meets his father’s mechanic and the two hit it off. He soon finds out that his new friend is a MacGuyver genius type. Long story short, they decide to combine their efforts to become a crime fighting duo.

Review:

Ultimately this movie was about what I expected. The acting is pretty good, not amazing by any means, but respectable. Seth Rogen I found to be a bit too Seth Rogenny?… if that makes any sense. The whole movie was hit or miss entertaining. Some of the jokes were funny, some not; some were too long and drawn out, and some not given enough time to make sense. The storyline was okay, but a bit lacking I think, just kinda felt half finished. I did enjoy the action scenes, and the overall shooting of the film. I loved Christoph Waltz in it, though honestly I feel his talents were a bit wasted on this movie. Oh I also did enjoy the vehicle. They definitely put a lot of effort into it, and it was pretty epically amazing.

So overall, this movie was meh? for me. It kept me amused and entertained. I’d watch it again if I were bored and had nothing better to watch.

The Karate Kid

Karate-kid-poster1-2

Directed by: Harald Zwart
Written by: Christopher Murphey
Cast: Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith, Taraj P. Henson
Studio: Columbia Pictures
Genre: Action
Official Site: www.sonypictures.com/movies/thekaratekid
Plot: “The Karate Kid” is about a mother and son who relocate to China for her job. The son has a rough time at school, being picked on and being left out due to his lack of knowledge of the language. A maintenance man for their new home decides to take him under his wing to keep him from being bullied, and teaches him Kung Fu.

Review:

This was really quite an enjoyable movie considering it being a remake. Remakes are so frequent nowadays that I’ve lost my expectations one way or another; they’re just too hit and miss for me. This one was actually quite decent. It was nice to see Jackie Chan play a more serious character; I really didn’t like any of the rush hour movies. In this movie he played the guy teaching Kung Fu, and he was really cool and interesting, and quite enjoyable to watch. Jaden Smith definitely proves that he’s got some acting chops passed on through his father. He was very enjoyable to watch, and I think he’ll make a terrific actor over the years. The movie was very well shot and really shows you a beautiful side of China. The storyline was okay, but pretty predictable, but definitely watchable. The biggest annoyance I guess, for me was that it’s called karate kid, but it is about kung fu. I get that they were going after the market of people wanting to see a remake, but it just doesn’t make sense. It’s such a minor little thing though, so it doesn’t sway my opinion too much.

Overall, I’d recommend this movie to anybody. It is a fun filled movie that will be enjoyable for most families. It’s nothing revolutionary and it doesn’t bring up any new ideas, but the movie definitely entertains.

The Town

Town-poster-2

Directed by: Ben Affleck
Written by: Peter Craig, Ben Affleck, Aaron Stockard
Cast: Ben Affleck, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Titus Welliver, Pete Postlethwaite
Studio: Warner Bros
Genre: Crime, Drama, Thriller
Official Site: www.thetownmovie.com
Plot: “The Town” is about a group of guys who are expert bank robbers growing up in a tough town where bank robbing is a way of life. The movie starts out with them robbing a bank; they end up taking a hostage with them and dumping her off by the water. Soon after, they find out their hostage is a neighbor and might realize who they are and could turn them in. The leader of the gang decides to keep an eye on her and to see what she knows. Inadvertently, he ends up falling for her and sees her as his way out of this town and out of this dangerous life.

Review:

This movie was an amazing movie and extremely well written; quite honestly, I didn’t think Ben Affleck had it in him. The storyline grips you from the very beginning and drags you into the character’s lives; the suspense was killing me all the way to the end. It is definitely well shot and shows off the many sides of the Brooklyn area. The acting was phenomenal from the main characters all the way down. It would take me forever if I talked about every one of them so I’ll pick just a handful. Ben Affleck not only directed but starred in this movie and did some excellent acting basically causing me to excuse any and all past issues I’ve ever had with him. Jon Hamm has come out of nowhere as an actor even though he’s been around for years. I don’t know where he was hiding or why it took so long to notice he was awesome, but now he’s being hit up all across the board. I love him in “Mad Men” and I loved him in this movie. Rebecca Hall is a beautiful and stunning woman in this movie; she was definitely a good choice for a leading lady...[more]...

Monsters

Monsters-poster

Directed by: Gareth Edwards
Written by: Gareth Edwards
Cast: Whitney Able, Scoot McNairy
Studio: Magnet Releasing
Genre: Horror, Science-Fiction
Official Site: www.monstersfilm.com
Plot: “Monsters” is not your typical monster movie. It takes place years after monster like creatures have spread throughout the Mexican – United States border. A giant portion of Mexico is now quarantined and watched over by the military as they try to stop the spread of these huge creatures. The movie focuses on a photographer and a girl he has to help bring from Mexico back to the United States. On the way, things go awry and their only way back home is through the quarantined infected zone. Will they make it?

Review:

Before I get too far, I must tell you; this movie isn’t quite what it appears to be. It is a monster movie but the monsters are not really the focus; the focus is mainly on the relationship between the two trying to get home. It really ends up being more of a romantic movie where the lives of the characters are directly affected by the crazy world around them. So after saying that, if you are expecting a crazy monster movie where cars are flying, people are getting smooshed, and the world is ending; go see a different movie...[more]...

Studio: Universal Pictures
Genre: Horror, Thriller

Plot: “Devil” isn’t a real complicated movie as far as the plot goes. Five people enter n elevator, the elevator breaks down, crazy stuff starts to occur causing the passengers all to distrust and turn on one another.

Review:

Tonight I bring you a movie I didn’t have much hope for. I bring you “Devil”, directed by John Eric Dowdle. I wasn’t expecting much due to the story and producing coming from M. Night Shyamalan. While I don’t think he is a terrible director, his last few attempts have all come up short for me, and I am a really forgiving person.

While the premise and the storyline had the potential to be really exciting and interesting, I feel this movie just didn’t hit the mark. Everything kind of fell short for me. It had a few suspenseful moments where I jumped, but nothing that was incredibly new or different or all that shocking. I think it also might have hit up the religious side of things a bit too much. The acting even felt kind of meh to me. I do have to say that the movie was shot very well, although at times the camera guy got a little too carried away.

So my opinion for this movie seems to be, I probably wouldn’t go see this. It really ended up being just a subpar kind of horror movie that didn’t deliver. It isn’t a terrible movie by any means, but overall just kind of leaves you with a meh feeling.
