Just watched an interesting documentary called Beltracchi: The Art of Forgery, about a German artist who forged the styles of famous painters and used the art auction market to pass them off as long-lost works. It puts quite the colorful new spin on the phrase "fake it till you make it".

The warnings were right: Jesus Camp is scarier than most horror movies. Unless you're Ted Cruz, then it's the Feel Good Movie of the Century.
Weapon X
Weapon X at 06:02 PM Feb 11

Noooooo, because Ted Cruz is a lying hyperconservative antisocial warmongering sleaze who uses his Christianity to (among other things) assign personhood to undeveloped fetal tissue while denying it to grown adults in committed relationships, he's a psycho cult member.

CrazyHick
CrazyHick at 06:52 PM Feb 11

Ahh you're one of those fine with murdering baby types gotcha, I understand. Also, Ted Cruz is a warmonger? I mean sure he wants to defeat ISIS but who in their right mind wouldn't? Anti-social, I don't think so. Sleaze, well he does look kinda of sleazy I can get behind that one. And I don't even support Cruz, or that blowhard Trump, I just like to think we are above petty insults purely because someone disagrees with you.

Weapon X
Weapon X at 07:05 PM Feb 11

If it makes you feel superior to willfully ignore the danger a smirking sociopath like Cruz poses to the country and the world at large while calling abortion "baby-murder" when it's neither scientifically a baby nor lawfully a murder, you go right ahead. Your chosen username pretty says it all, so I'm not wasting my time on you. You magnificent derp.

Kung-Fu Panda 3 was terrific. I'm a BIG fan of the first two movies and this one did not disappoint. Really solid way to conclude this fantastic trilogy. The voice cast was excellent and the animation was amazing (the usage of various styles was perfect). Great score & really good story. This was just a great time. Loved it

Fitness trends change so often I have no idea if this has been disproven but here is the classic answer. Eat better. Fruits, veggies, low fat protein. Less processed food. You'll have more sustainable energy. Plus, and this seems glib, just doing it. Bodily functions can be habitual. Lethargic lifestyles train your body to react with lethargy and vice versa.

The 10 Best Films of 2015

10. Me, Earl, and The Dying Girl

This film was a very odd experience for me. It grew in front of my eyes to become something so poignant and real. At its start, it was just another typical Indie film. It seriously hit every note that belongs to the genre: the self-aware attitude, the alternative music, and the quirky characters. If you stay with it, which you should, you see it blossom into something more beautiful and deeper. Olivia Cooke, who stars as the dying Rachel, is something marvelous here. Along with Thomas Mann and RJ Cyler, who play the other title characters, Me, who was Greg, and Earl, they created a tribute to friendship and the power of art. Even though Rachel is dying, it is Greg who is more dire need of their forced friendship than she is since he has a strict code of not becoming close to anyone. He even refers to his apparent friend and fellow film maker, Earl, as his business partner. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who directed a few episodes of “American Horror Story”, directed this to a Sundance prize for the audience award. Rejon never takes the horror away of someone dying but also doesn't bask in the darkness of it. There were moments of such playful creativity here thanks to the crappy movies, that they know are crap, Greg and Earl made. When it had to go back to being serious and show life lessons it did that just fine. It was that balancing act that made the movie loved and Rejon a talent to look out for in the near future.

9. Black Mass

It was extremely refreshing to see Johnny Depp act again. Before Sparrow, he was someone who always challenged himself with more than just a change of voice, walk, or being dressed up in whatever Tim Burton thought up of that day. He really got into his characters no matter how weird, odd, or different they were and made them memorable. When I heard that he was going to portray Whitey Bugler, one of America’s most wanted and violent criminals, I prayed that Depp would regress to his old self. Again, he changed his voice, walk, clothes, but there was something more to his performance this time that convinced me that it was more than just a paycheck movie. It was his eyes. Those bright blue eyes that pierced his victim’s hearts way before any bullet did. Many scenes in the movie do show him committing acts of murder but then there were the quieter scenes where he is just warning you or trying to frighten you. There is where you saw that Depp was back. He was like one of J.K. Rowling’s dementors, he just sucked joy and hope out of the room. The movie was damn good too. It is just incredibly hard to fathom how incompetent the FBI were during that time. The movie did provide answers but it is still ridiculous to see go down. Joel Edgerton was also very good here too. His John Connolly did everything possible to keep this unlikely deal between the FBI and Bugler fair. He was naïve but his intentions were good at first. He was a man torn between his trust and doing what is right. The film gave us a very detailed and haunting account of what went down and why. Connolly’s eventual downfall is heartbreaking, though done through his own stupidity, and Edgerton sells it.

8. Brooklyn

Period pieces are very tricky to accomplish. If done wrong, they could be boring, bland, and every other negative adjective that young people associate with senior citizens This movie wasn’t one of those films, but actually a fantastic coming of age tale. First off, everything here felt authentic to the Brooklyn of yesteryear. The brilliant cinematography made all the colors pop off the screen and made America seem like a dream world, which was the case for many immigrants coming over here. The American dream is the goal for young Eilis, played so perfectly by Saoirse Ronan, even if it means leaving her life in Ireland. Her journey, as portrayed in the film, was a tough one full of many rough choices both involving work and love. What the film did so well was rightfully show the strengths and flaws of both men, after her heart, and the homelands they live in. Should she stay in America with someone who isn’t as well off or the man with money back in Ireland? The film laid out both pros and cons perfectly, avoiding one being painted as a lesser man. It was these questions, troubles, and obstacles that Eilis had to face throughout the film and I couldn’t have picked a better actress than Ronan to capture all of this with her incredible skill. She has been nominated for her second Oscar , this time in the leading role, and I couldn’t think of a more deserving nomination.

7. Straight Outta Compton

This was a brilliantly made movie that perfectly captured its subjects and time period. Many of the events in this film ring too close to what is going on in the world today. Ice-Cube and his group, NWA, know they can’t physically fight the LAPD so they do it through the next best thing, music. Everyone lives, no one goes to jail, and they develop a following. Of course, the LAPD and the government do everything possible to shut it down. This is more than a bio picture but an important time capsule to show that music, or art of any kind, is a powerful weapon. These men, who were saviors, aren’t painted as saints either. They participate in drugs, gang activities, and a lot of unprotected sex, which did kill one of the members, and most of them keep their aggressive attitudes 24/7. You know what? That is reality and the attributes of people who change the world. They didn’t play is safe, neither did the movie, which resulted in the film…”keeping it real.”

6. Inside Out

Over the last few years, Pixar’s resume was full of movies that were good, but nowhere near as legendary as their older ones. In 2015, they came back strong with “Inside Out.” For children, this was a colorful, funny, creative, and wonderful adventure that was full of such memorable characters. For adults, it was all those things too and so much more. Directors Pete Doctor and Ronnie Del Carmen basically took a psychology 101 class and broke it down for children to understand in the most fascinating way possible. Everyone was on their game here: the voice acting was incredible, whoever thought of casting Lewis Black as anger, please give them a raise, the writing was clever and witty, and the animation was beautiful. Riley’s mind was given such color and personality. It was a perfect representation of a young girl’s mind. Children’s films usually pander to their target audience’s limited knowledge. The team behind this movie took the challenge and actually made them both think and marvel at this masterpiece.

5. The Hateful Eight

A three-hour Western filmed in a safe house that is occupied by the nastiest bastards this side of the Mississippi. The film did take its time to unravel but you don’t want to rush the pitch perfect performances that spouted that amazing screenplay, a Tarantino staple, and overall feel of this picture. Ennio Morricone, who is pushing 90, kept up with the young and hip vibe that Tarantino established. The central mystery of this film was played out very well. Note, go into it knowing next to nothing. Of course, the blood and guts that everyone associates with his films were there but all these great aspects were overshadowed by Jennifer Jason Leigh. Oh my God! What a performance! She was the only female in the main cast of burly men and did a fantastic job. Daisy, her character, was a rough and tough bitch who didn’t care about saying the wrong thing to the wrong person. Leigh, breathed, hissed, and moved like some sort of caged animal. Every time she was on screen, she stole the show. She was that amazing and kind of sexy. There was a time that Tarantino wasn’t going to make this due to someone leaking the script. Thank God he changed his mind because this was just a fantastic film.

4. Truth

Cate Blanchett is getting all the awards recognition for the wrong movie. Yes, she was good in Carol, but she was absolutely incredible here. The stakes on her performance were much larger here than the other movie, hell, she isn’t even the lead in “Carol”. In 2004, Mary Mapes and Dan Rather uncovered vital information that would've definitely prevented President George W. Bush from getting a second term. As you can see, it didn’t work. The film examines why and the results are incredibly frightening. Mapes and Dan Rather, nicely played by Robert Redford, had rock solid evidence but screwed up on tiny detail. When I say tiny, I mean even tinier than that. It is from that screw up that Mapes and the legendary Rather full from grace. The film will get your mad and upset on how easy it is for those high powered individuals to wiggle their way out of trouble. This rage is perfectly captured by Blanchett’s performance the end speech where she says what all of us are feeling. It is where Blanchett finally loses her cool and expresses what we all think of people and situations like this one. Though this isn’t the number one, it is the most important film on this list.

3. The Gift

The biggest surprise of the year lands pretty high on this list. Joel Edgerton, who wrote, directed, and acted in this bad boy, gave us the perfect thriller. It is something that would make Hitchcock proud. It is twisted and gleefully screws with your mind. Edgerton kept you on the edge of your seat for more than half the movie than just toys with your emotions in the last act. It has some of the most messed up, but tastefully done, moments I have seen on film in quite some time. Just like his character, you never know where it is going or what it will do next. Hats off to Jason Bateman for showing the world that he has some dramatic chops in him. Edgerton’s screenplay is careful not to paint him as a total douchebag, though he is pretty much a big one, but a flawed person who never grew up but managed to become successful. Loneliness is a big theme of this film and how some people who have it all can feel the most isolated. Edgerton has created a film with such tension and fear that you will be give me a round of applause with the very hands that have their finger nails bitten down at the end

2. The Revenant

Leo will finally get it this year and it won’t be a pity Oscar…he earned that shit! Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who may get his second Oscar too, put Leo through such hell in this film. Everything looks, feels, and seems so real thanks to the choice to film in remote areas of Canada that were never stepped on by human feet. This gave cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki a vast space to shoot some of the most beautiful visuals ever to be put on film. Seriously, it is very pleasing on the eyes. Inarritu uses his signature directing style of keeping the cuts at a minimal to show what his lead actor went through. A perfect example would be the bear scene which is harsh and unforgiving. Leo’s expressive blue eyes and physical acting ability sell his journey just fine. He does not talk for more than half of the movie and it takes an awful lot of skill to keep the audience invested on this one man journey. You will feel cold watching this film, but that is part of its magic….total immersion.

What a fascinating, sad, yet fulfilling journey this movie turned out to be. A film with all these emotions usually doesn’t know how to handle them. It becomes too melodramatic or phony. When you have someone like Brie Larson leading your film, you are in good hands. She seriously is as good as you heard. Stripped of makeup and self-appreciation, she makes Ma such a raw character. Director Lenny Abrahamson and writer Emma Donogue, create such a dark but hopeful fairy tale. What this movie does so well is capture the difficulties of post rescue so well. Where other films would just end at that point or screw up the attempted events after, this is where this movie shines. At points, you feel like little Jack, that he’d rather be back in the room with his Ma where everything was fun and simple…well mostly. All these post rescue events are handled with such maturity and skill. The movie is a flawless masterpiece especially young Jacob Trembly. If there was ever an Oscar snub that will be remembered with film fans throughout history it will be this one. Jack, his character, has known nothing but the room for all his life. He was born there. The way he can’t understand simple realities is heartbreaking and done well by Trembly. Once out, he moves like a young rescued pup, confused and scared of the huge new world around him. The performance is the BEST performance I have seen all year of any category. It is a damn robbery that he didn’t get a nomination. He is Larson’s support and added so much to her performance. Even though this story does go to dark places, there is light at the end of the tunnel. It shows how powerful a mother and son’s love is and how it can defeat any obstacle. It is a truly beautiful film that stays with you way after you’ve seen it.

Art is beginning to happen again. It's a fun day when I can look at insects AND Jack Kirby artwork for reference.

Most of the kills in 'Stitches' (2010) were like Mortal Kombat fatalities, which was fucking awesome. Plus, I never thought clowns were creepy or funny, until now. After the disappointing 'Intruders' (2015) this was a pleasure.

I guess 'Stitches' is from (2012).

Bought a used copy of Jason Goes to Hell, Freddy vs Jason, and Jason X(don't ask me why) and they're all scratched and scuffed to shit thus being the worst case scenario of buying cheap used dvds
