Deadpool is apparently tracking to open in the $55 million range! For an R-rated, b-list superhero movie that is a totally fantastic number. Really surprising, I thought it was going pretty under the mainstream radar (as you would expect) and had like a 50/50 chance of bombing, probably higher. An opening like what is being projected now is just as much as X-Men: First Class' opening, and even more than both The Wolverine and the original X-Men openings (all of which had the advantage of being PG-13 and with more star power to boot). Hell it's on track to have a bigger opening than heavy hitters like King Kong, Interstellar, The Bourne Supremacy, How To Train Your Dragon 2, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Batman Begins, the Men In Black series, Tangled, Superman Returns and The Matrix: Revolutions... go Deadpool!
