Review:

PROS:

+ fantastic direction
+ fantastic acting
+ really great music (the first double-piano tune is fantastic)
+ surprisingly funny at times

CONS:

- abrupt ending feels cheap, and makes it feel like while they were well made, the movie was kind of pointless as a whole, there really isn't any arc to it
- excessive graphic nudity (nudity is fine, and the movie needed it, but the graphic nudity is just overdone here with the 20 shots of Micheal Fassbender's junk, or the way some of the sex scenes were shot where they basically zoom in on MF's pubic region taking this girl from behind... really? Because we couldn't figure out what he was doing back there? It didn't add or enhance anything and unfortunately just became a distraction and a detraction from the effect and quality of the movie, though it's still more of a minor complaint)

OVERALL:

after watching it I basically figured this out... This is the prequel to American Psycho. Well hell, it could be. Regardless it's an extremely well made movie from the great direction to the acting to the music, but although it has a strong concept where the movie falls is with it's script. Although well written in terms of dialog, and the concept is interesting and there are moments of brilliance, it never comes together well enough to truly fulfill the viewer. While the climax is interesting, the ending following it feels cheap as it happens so quickly and offers no resolution to anything, as if we really didn't see any character evolution in the movie... instead we just watched him stay the same for two hours, despite what happened in the end.

Would 'excessive nudity' be listed under 'CON' if there was lots of female nudity?

^ yes. I mean I'm not saying 'take all of it out, I don't want to see a guy's junk!' I'm just saying I don't need to see it 20 times. If it were a vagina, same thing (and there is a lot of female nudity in here, just not as much). And in terms of one of the sex scenes, alright we get it they're doing it doggystyle, no need to zoom in on her ass and watch him ram into her, almost showing penetration. Like I said it's just excessive, the point had already gotten across, it just feels like the direction got a little out of hand with these things. I mean it's a movie, nudity is fine, but it's not a porno and those porn-esque elements just distract and detract from the experience instead of add to it or enhance it

Really? In that case, don't ask me out. :P

To me, this movie was perfect in every way. I wouldn't have changed a thing. I can't wait to buy it next week.

This is my favourite movie of 2012, I didn't even care about the excessive nudity I loved the film too much to notice.

I really want to see this. I've loved the director Steve McQueen after seeing Hunger.
