Bizzaro World Pulp Fiction Casting
“The two characters that I would really like to explore more are Jules and Vincent. When we were mixing the movie, the guy who’s the mixer laughed so much at Jules and Vincent – “They’re so f**kin’ funny.” It’s really rare when you find people who work good together and actually the last time I saw two actors who were just a ripping comedy team was Tim (Roth) and Gary (Oldman) in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. They fucking played like a house on fire, and I was telling Tim, “You guys should do a comedy. Don’t do a f**kin’ drama. I don’t wanna see Murder in the First, I wanna see you guys as a great comedy team.”
“To tell you the truth, if I had rewritten the script, Gary and Tim could have played Jules and Vincent, just played two English guys.”
- Quentin Tarantino
Two things:
1) How do you think that casting would've played out?
For me, personally, it's interesting to think about...but the film would not have the same mojo. Sam and John are so iconic in these roles, I can't imagine anyone else being as effective. But, it is funny to think about Roth and Oldman debating about whether a foot massage is in the same ball park as fucking.
2) I need to check out Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.
DrunkWell...I just finished watching Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Interesting existential reflection on the fictitious character. The chemistry and timing between Oldman and Roth is off the chain, though. Wow. The world needs more films of these two just...chatting, really.
I feel like the Oldman/Tarantino collaboration is something that will eventually happen. He's obviously a big fan, and it's more a matter of waiting until the perfect character manifests in that insane, creative head of his.
It's interesting to see how that would have played out. Roth and Oldman are incredible actors. I think they could have done a bang up job.

In fact, when is Gary Oldman going to be in a Tarantino film huh??? (True Romance doesn't count...)
