A ten year schmoe
Today marks the 10th anniversary of becoming the schmoe known as bigred760. I’m not much of a blogger, or writer of any kind for that matter, but I’m a sucker for milestones and I have to say for me to stick around something for that long is quite an accomplishment. Most of the credit goes to joblo.com, its creator and the staff that runs it day in and day out because the site is just so damn fun to be a part of. When I joined ten years ago, joblo.com was simply movie news, its sister site “Arrow in the Head,” and the discussion boards. I didn’t do much discussing on the boards to begin with, but over the next few months to a year, I participated more and more in the discussion boards. Today, the site is something of a movie internet empire: a social network site in moviefancentral.com (and that was originally myjoblo.com), the Digital Dorm, the Poster Palace, Joblo videos, and of course, Movie Hotties. Naturally, the original Joblo.com website and Arrow in the Head are still around, though they’ve changed considerably in the last decade. I think I can remember four joblo.com layouts since I’ve been a schmoe. My favorite “update” to the empire is definitely MovieFanCentral; with the status updates, pictures, friends and fanbox . . . hell there’s even a chat room – there’s little that a movie fan can’t enjoy (hence the name). There’s always something interesting going on there.
I’ve been a movie geek for over ten years, but I think joblo.com has only fueled my love for movies. It’s been a long time since I’ve gone to another movie news website other than joblo.com. I enjoy reading the movie news, the Ten Spot, the reviews (though I do wish Joblo himself would return to reviewing movies), the weekend box office updates, and participating in all the polls. There have been several other schmoes on the website that have made the discussion boards and MovieFanCentral fun as well. There are few people I know personally that are as interested in movies as I am, but in the discussion boards – there are plenty. I’ve had several discussions and debates on the boards over the last 10 years and they have been spirited, interesting, and thought-provoking.
In the last ten years, I have changed jobs (but not careers), moved to another state, become an uncle . . . twice, been to the desert in the Middle East, the Amazon jungle, and the Caribbean, and fell in love and got married. Movies have been a big part of the last ten years and joblo.com has been a big part of my continuing to love movies. I know I'm not the oldest schmoe, but I'm glad to have been around to learn about upcoming movies, read and discuss others' thoughts on movies, and to basically have fun when it comes to movies. So here’s to joblo.com, here’s to my fellow schmoes, and here’s to another 10 years of being a joblo.com schmoe.
SurprisedAbsolutely man! Great site and I'm also happy to have been a schmoe for so long. Congrats.
Happy Birthday, hope you have a rocking day, full of fun and... affection.
