Did the original movie need a sequel(s)? (Yes, I'm doing this out of boredom))

1. Alien (Yes, because we saw all those alien eggs so the possibility of sequels was obviously open.)
2. The Evil Dead (Yes, because a lot of people love both sequels, that I'm not sure the original would be as popular if there were not more.)
3. Escape From New York (No, because 'Escape From L.A.' added nothing, it was more or less a remake/rehash, hence unnecessary though I think it's entertainingly watchable.)
4. The Fugitive (Somewhat yes, because I think some people wanted to see more of Tommy Lee Jones' character and his team.))
5. Halloween (Maybe not, I think the original was good enough that could be as popular without the sequels.)
6. The Hangover (No, because the sequel had the same story but a different location. That and it was unnecessary.)
7. Jaws (No, because they killed the shark in the first movie, how the hell can it come back for three more unnecessary sequels or whatever?)
8. A Nightmare on Elm Street (Yes, granted none of the sequels are as great as the original, but you can't have a great character like Freddy be in only one movie.)
9. Predator (Maybe, though 'Predator 2' and 'Predators' really didn't add too much. I'm not sure this was a story you could only keep to one movie. You know, too many more possibilities and what not.)
10. Disney direct-to-video animated sequels (Not really, though some of them are watchable.)
11. Any movie that has a recurring main character(s)/ hero(es) (Yes, of course because movies like Batman, Die Hard, Indiana Jones & James Bond are more or less meant to have sequels or continuing adventures)

If ya think about it, no movie really needs a sequel.

Can number 11 include Riddick? I really like Riddick.

#8, Not to mention that the Freddy in the first movie was very different in tone to the character he became. It wasn't until part 3 that he really became the Freddy Kruger we all know and love.

2 - well I don't think it needed a sequel. Yes people loved the sequels, but just because a lot of people loved them doesn't mean they were NEEDED ;)

there are a few others on the list that I feel the same way about. I mean no movie really NEEDS a sequel unless the story isn't complete, those are the only movies that need sequels because the story isn't finished being told. A lot of movies just have sequels that aren't essential but do add to the backstory and continue on and such and there's nothing wrong with that, because a lot of them are great fun, but as much as we love them they were never really NEEDED (most of them at least) ;)

8 - I actually think Wes Craven's New Nightmare is a great sequel, and I actually like it over the original.
