My GF upset me today (United 93)

412vrknvtel

Yesterday while flipping through my movies I landed on a little film called UNITED 93. I saw this film in theaters some years back and I loved it. Since I haven't seen it in quite some time I decided to pop it in. Again I really love this flick. The movie is overly sappy and it's honorable about the portrayal of 9/11. I think it's a gripping and fantastic film. However about halfway into the movie my girlfriend comes into our room from school. She starts to wind down while telling me about her day. After that she asks me what I'm watching... I tell her. It was like someone flipped an angry switch in the back of her head. She goes on to tell me why would I watch this movie? Why would they make a movie about events (the airplane section of the film) that no one knows what happens. She calls it a stupid movie. Then she goes on these huge conspiracy theories about 9/11. Keep in mind she hasn't seen this movie. I tell her to slow down, sit next to me, and give the film a shot. She says, and I quote, "No! I will never watch this stupid movie. Ever." Then she walks out of the room. OUCH haha. It really put me in aw. I couldn't believe that she wouldn't even watch a second of it. It upset me a little (don't worry I still love her). Has this ever happened to you?

Animalmother10, I see the opportunity for some make-up sex in your future.

Meh I'm not a fan of the movie. It felt exploitative and the movie felt like a civil war re-enactment. Just safe. But your GF sounds kind of dense. No offense.

I like to keep an open mind and find it interesting to hear and explore all the different 'conspiracy theories' whether they are about 9/11 or otherwise but I don't get why she would react like that... well, at least you still love her I guess!

REMAKES

Caligari2

Like most people I have a problem with remakes. I don't mind the idea of remakes because some can be fun and rewarding (Fright Night, Let Me In, Cape Fear, Texas Chainsaw). My beef with remakes is that were not going back far enough. Are these movies from the 70's, 80's, and even 90's so outdated that they need a remake. No. I don't know about you but I still love and watch A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, THE THING, EVIL DEAD, BLACK CHRISTMAS, HALLOWEEN etc..

I think if hollywood is going to throw out remakes why not pick films from the 30's or 40's. Movies that a mass audience doesn't know about. I think it would be great to see a remake of THE CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI or METROPOLIS. I'm sick of seeing movies being remade from the 80's-2000's. Go back further hollywood. That's all I have to say about that. Call me crazy

EACTLY, there are a ton of older movies that no one has ever heard of, they have good stories which could be given a modern twist, like some Hammer Horror films, some are laughably bad now but you could do some cool shit with them now.

Because the older films don't have a built-in audience. The reason why the barrage of remakes and reboots being churned out are from the 80's - 90's is because they already have an existing fanbase, and the general audience has either seen the original property or are at the very least familiar with it. FW Murnau's Last Laugh most likely won't get a remake treatment from Hollywood. Citizen Kane probably would though.
