We all have the films we grew up with, and some of the people who made them became our heroes once we were old enough to grasp how they were made. A handful of the films I grew with in a big way include, "The Seven Voyages of Sinbad," The Valley of Gwangi," and the original "Mighty Joe Young," to name a few. We all know the brilliant hands/mind behind the creatures brought to life in those films belong to Ray Harryhausen. The man was also well known for being nothing short of humble and wonderful. The world lost someone special today, but his work is immortal. Very, very, very sad day.

The utterly brilliant open-world game that paved the way for Red Dead Redemption - Gun. With an all star cast featuring, Thomas Jane, Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman, Brad Dourif and Lance Henriksen - happy birthday again, Lance!
always wanted to play this one because of Tom Jane, but I played Red Dead Revolver first and was hooked on that forever, never got around to playing this.

That's the guitar pick of my hero, Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem (my buddy's gf wouldn't let me have it even though it landed by my foot) and on my clothes/hair is the water he soaked those up front with - very cool :)

Well she found it (had to move my foot off it to do so) and I missed Brian throwing it because I was saving my gf from being squashed by a giant crowd surfer!

Last night.
I saw my very favorite band, The Gaslight Anthem, for the fifth time. As usual, I am always in awe of even standing in the same building with my heroes, let alone being just mere feet away. On top of their usual catalog of phenomenaltasticity, I finally was privileged to hear the song that tops my iTunes "Top 25 Most Played" ("Old Haunts" - 131 plays to date) as well as many other beautiful gems.
Towards the end of the night this 200+ pound bloke decided he needed my buddy and I's help to crowd surf. Well he didn't stay up long and since we were on the rail up front I could tell he was plumiting toward my poor girlfriend so I threw all my weight upwards, (she's fine - she ducked) and he landed on the rail but luckily my arm cushioned his fall which is still jacked up but the point of this story is not to gain your pity but to understand that in doing this, I missed (the frontman and one of my heroes) Brian Fallon's guitar pick landing by my foot - if that's no...

Oh man sounds like a blast. I've meet Brian a few times he's a super nice dude. My old band even played with his old band a couple of times. Sounds like a fucking great time

Released 19 years ago today, his 81st album. Timeless. Haunting. Gorgeous.
Apparently the Tom Waits and Glen Danzig tunes Johnny covers on this album were written FOR Johnny. The American Recordings albums are rich with great story/history - on top of being phenomenal.

I will always cherish seeing Rambo in theaters on opening night with my good buddy, both of us donned in red bandanas. Then I wore a full Rambo getup to the Expendables midnight showing - now that was a little embarrassing.
Point is, I love Rambo.
Rambo rules, and you wearing that to The Expendables should be recognized as an amazing idea that I'm mad I didn't think of.
