I can't say anyhting about this classic which hasn't been said before and better I may add. I'll just say Carpenter crafted a nifty little horror spectacular which really stands the test of time despite being almost 30 years old!
The cast do great jobs as far as character goes. The creature effects are jaw dropping. Even to this day. The plot is simple but the execution is masterfull. A alien being is able to take on the appearance of anyone it comes into contact with and it's desire is to spread throughout humanity while laying waste to it. Chilling.
I love how there is tons of mystery to the film. You don't know much about the alien. You don't even know if the ship which the guys find in the ice belonged to the 'thing' or if it's crew were simply victims of this vile creature.
I love the music. It's one of my favourite Carpenter scores. The only part of the film I hate is the stuff with the dogs. I know it's not real but love dogs and any time I see a scene where a dog is in trouble I feel like turning off the damn film.
Last night when I watched it it felt werid because I only saw the prequel last week at the cinema. So I was watching this almost as a sequel for the first time! Clearly it is it's own beast and I think people will still be talking about this film in another 30 years time!

Hell Yeah! Great movie.
