Tron Legacy: Flynn Lives Zero Hour PORTLAND
For those who are interested -
I was able to make it to the Portland drop for the "Calling All Operatives" event on www.flynnlives.com.
So the .pdf said to go to an arcade that is a few blocks from where I work. The announcement came out at 12 noon, and that was the time on the event so I walked down there. I was there by 12:10 or so. I was instructed to find someone with a Flynn Lives t-shirt and give the password "up up down down". I found her (she was hot!) and said the password. She said "I already gave it out". So I thought it was over.
As I'm walking out there is a group of people sitting at a table and they motion me over. They had already claimed the prize - it was a cell phone and a phone number. There were 5 of them and they said they were waiting for one more person to show up so they hadn't called yet. The phone rang - I guess they got tired of waiting.
The guy who had the phone got up and motioned for us to follow him. We all did. We went outside and walked around the corner. At another building a small bag was hidden behind some water pipes along the sidewalk.
Inside the bag was an old-school fabric wallet with velcro from the 80's that said TRON on it. Inside were three Tron trading cards from the set the released back then. The small images on www.flynnlives.com that are being revealed (and can be flipped over to reveal a larger image) are the pictures from these cards. There was a long code tagged to each card. As people at these drops enter the codes and the picture is released on the website. A girl in the group entered the codes into the webpage with her smart phone. With that, Portland got the blue check mark and our three images were released.
Also in the wallet were a couple of tokens from Flynn's arcade, and several newspaper clippings and flyers with Flynn Lives announcements and lots of info similar to the stuff on the website. One of the guys there said he had received a "No" byte (the spiky red plastic thing they've been mailing to people). While we were going through the contents a woman approched us and was filming with a handheld camera. Once we noticed her she revealed she was with the "Flynn Lives Organization". We all signed releases for the video to be put on the web.
So it was fun! I've never actually made it to one of these things on time so that was cool. It was also cool of the guy who got the phone to wait for the rest of us so we could all partake. We also split up the swag - I took one of the playing cards. (#36 on the website if you care which one). I have a few pics and I will post them.
SurprisedThat's pretty fucking rad. December is so damn far away. 12:00 - did this all happen on your lunch break? That makes it even more awesome if so.
all the cities did it the same day yeah. They started in the east, I just kept my eye on the website until the Portland location populated. This didn't happen on my lunch break - I work in sales so it's all about quota. I can basically do what I want as long as I make my numbers.

They never do any cool movie tie-in shit like this in my area, stupid little podunk small market town. :|
So jealous.
