Spoilers for Drive ahead.

My girlfriend didn't understand why Albert Brooks tried to kill Ryan Gosling at the end of the movie. Why not just let him skip town and live his life looking over his shoulder? I tried to explain my idea but she said there were too many other possibilities. Thoughts? Why do you think Albert Brooks tried to finish off The Driver?

That's what I thought, too, but my girlfriend said that didn't make sense lol

Because Brooks was neither a real human being nor a real hero.

Because it looks better for him if he gets the money back and kills the Driver. Nino stealing the money doesn't just reflect badly on Nino, but everyone. He was trying to clean up the mess and make things right again. He said he'd let him go because he wanted him not to see it coming.

it didn't blow me away, but still looks interesting enough to get excited for it + you can't go wrong with Emma Stone.

Obligatory response semi agreeing, but retaining my stubborn opinion.

I woke up today with a plan to rewatch this season in preparation because seriously, WD has had the LONGEST mid-season "break" ever!

I can't be the only schmoe who will not be watching the Super Bowl... I'm seeing The Descendants instead.

your not, just got the Spider-Man trilogy on blu-ray so I'll probably watch 1&2 tonight.

^hehe good choice, I'd rather watch the superbowl than Spiderman 3... that says a lot.

Finally got around to watching Tree of Life. I thought it was great, and not nearly as insane and pondering as most people have been saying.

Now I have something else to watch this weekend!

dead anchoress

I would certainly say that film is something to ponder. I really enjoyed it.

TeamZissou
TeamZissou at 06:08 PM Feb 04

I'd dispute people calling it "insane," but I haven't seen anyone use that qualifier. But to say this movie isn't meditative, abstruse and unconventional gem seems a little dismissive. I had a few issues with its final act but thought it was otherwise brilliant.

I agree, I saw World's Greatest Dad and thought it was great and still need to see Sleeping Dog's Lie.

Bobcat has come a long way from being that mentally defective guy in the Police Academy movies.

Me too. The film represents dark vicarious wish fulfillment. We have all thought like the protagonists in the movie. We have all wondered how a civilization can continue when no one wants to be civilized. I was glad that the trailer shows such promise for the movie.

After a second viewing, Ides of March has solidified itself as my #1 movie of the year. Fuck, I love this movie.

I am probably going to blind buy it tomorrow. I saw the trailer play before Moneyball when I watched the Blu-ray last night and it looked interesting to me but then I had to skip past the last minute or so of the trailer cause it was starting to give shit away, ugh.

The acting make it one of 2011's best films. The script's intelligence and pertinence make it one of 2011's best.
