HappyI love James Horner and his work but Avatar isn't near his best. UP has such a fantastic score, it really is the best of the year.
I went to see Avatar for the 3rd time last night, with the intent of paying particularly close attention to Horner's score to see if it really was as bland, generic and overall underwhelming as I had thought the first two times.
Yep.
Horner ripped off his own scores for Avatar. Not very good even so. I really want Up to win. Giacchino's score was beautiful. I wish he had also gotten a nom for Star Trek.
When I see Up, I will definitely buy the score. I love movie soundtracks, they are awesome.
Theres nothing wrong with Avatar's score, its rather good just not award worthy good.
@SuperMarcey- fair enough. Are you watching the Oscars sunday? The whole thing.
You're right Marcey, it was a perfectly fine score. Perhaps a terrific score for almost any other composer, but I kind of held Horner in a higher esteem. Escpecially his previous collaborations with Cameron, which were gold, I figured it was a can't-miss thing.
Sadly I have not seen UP, but I totally forgot that Giacchino did the score. Being a huge fan of his, I hope he takes it. :D
Yeah I'll be watching them live but it will be midday Monday here not Sunday night :p yes damn that Aussie future time.
Yoshio please go see UP, it is such a fantastic film!
In agreement on pretty much all of your choices Marcey, especially with Inglourious Basterds for s/play. And you are totally right about the Up soundtrack. It was seriously beautiful throughout and complimented the film incredibly well. I think that Sandra Bullock is a shoe-in for Best Actress, although personally, I would love to see Carey Mulligan pick up the Oscar. Her performance in An Education was quite simply, exceptional!!

I want Avatar to win original score. Haven't seen Up or listen to the original score, but I heard great things about it.
