I got more of a classic spunky wise cracking Peter Parker vibe out of Andrew Garfield in a 2 minute trailer then I had out of 3 full length movies starring boring Tobey McWhitebread Vanilla Pants. THIS looks more like the Spider-Man movie I always wanted.

I'm calling it now and saying Loki's army is The Atlanteans. When you factor in the blueish skin tone on them in the trailer, the spear like weapons the mo cap guys were using on set and the so called Leviathan which may be a creature, or a ship designed to look like a creature it all kind of fits them. Kevin Fiege already stated that it's not the Skrull or the Kree and we've already seen the Frost Giants in THOR so I don't think it's them again, especially after Loki tried to kill them all. I think MARVEL is looking to expand this universe further, and if it is them it could lead to...
I think they are just the frost giants in armour but then again you never know....
We've already seen Loki and the Frost Giants defeated though, and I don't think their gonna just give us what we've already seen in THOR for The Avengers. Otherwise whats the point of assembling this big team to take out something THOR already did by himself?
Good point, it's just say Loki had a HUGHE army of 'em though, that'd be a big threat I guess. I'd love if it was a brand new threat but I just don't wanna get my hopes up and then it's....frost giants lol
There is just to much stupid crammed into G.I.JOE: Rise of Cobra for my brain to process. It just keeps coming at you so fast.
Which makes my liking of the sequel that much more conflicting. I don't want to see the sequel, but they seem to fix up all the stupid shit from the first movie.
Tatum and Wayans were bad enough, but then you stick stupid jokes that weren't funny, CG that was straight up PS2 worthy (no matter what that jackass Cochise says), and those dumb lips on Snake Eyes that are the G.I. Joe equivalent of Batman nipples.
The sequel at least looks competent and The Rock is a hell of a better lead than Tatum.
I was a little worried that watching Drive again might sort of dull the hypnotic intensity from the first viewing having already seen it, but it didn't at all. SPOILER ALERT Also when he goes after Nino wearing the mask it's a total 80's slasher horror scene. Fucking love that movie.
wholeheartedly agree.. him just standing there at the window gazing into the club... gave me the chills.
phenomenal movie.
Lets Get Dangerous

Chillin'This cartoon gave me the most memorable moments on TV ever... Twin Peaks parody?? James Bondish evil villains? Time travelling into a distopian future? All kinds of awesome!
All of these are totally amazing dude. Thanks for posting these. Such a great show, during the golden era of TV animation.
My Two Cents on the WATCHMEN Prequels

I generally dislike prequels to begin with because they have a tendency to be redundant by over-telling us things we already know, and only serve to dilute the original idea with unnecessary explanation. STAR WARS anybody? WATCHMEN is already a completed piece of work, we have all the important backstory needed to understand the story being told. There is no artistic reason for telling more WATCHMEN stories, just monetary ones. Now you can say what you will about Alan Moore, but the truth is this has more to do with DC just wanting to capitalize on the heightened awareness that the movie created for "the brand." If they really wanted to tell new and interesting stories set in this world they should of just made a sequel set in Veidt's new utopia that explores the consequences to Adrian's ultimate plan and maybe features some new characters mixed in. Be creative and expand it forward by using recent historical events as the back drop of the story to explore the moral ambiguities in the age of terrorism instead of a lazy paint by numbers prequel. They didn't do that though because they just wanted the already established WATCHMEN characters like Rorschach, Comedian, Dr.Manhattan and The Minute Men to milk it for all it's worth. The most we can really expect from the prequels is superhero stories telling the adventures of the characters before the events in WATCHMEN, which goes against the whole idea of WATCHMEN not being a superhero story, but a story about superheroes. It's amazing how all these industry professionals that claim to love and be inspired by WATCHMEN seem to be missing the point of it entirely. These prequels may be written by great writers in their own right, but it's just fan fiction in my opinion and not in continuity with Moore and Gibbons masterpiece. Yup, I said masterpiece.
SadAgreed. True creativity would be examining our current times. If nothing else, the Watchmen tale would not be already as written as the prequels' history. And, the original Watchmen series explored allegorically its times, the late '80s. So, writers would be truer to Moore's vision were they to examine our current times.
But, oh well, recent DC has seemed comfortable disregarding established DC Universe traditions. For example, the New 52 are new versions of beloved heroes. The Watchmen classic has prequels now. Etc.
Not that I'd want a sequel without Alan Moore involved, but at least it wouldn't just be a lazy paint by numbers prequel. It's really a waste of such a talented line up of writers to have them just filling out the B & C when all we really needed was the A & D of it all. It's just empty filler, and the thing about WATCHMEN is that there is no empty filler. It's actually a very lean version of a massive story that unfolds over decades with only the important elements needed to tell that story. It's just such a rich and complex story being told, and why WATCHMEN is so dense with detail. We don't need to see the adventures of Rorschach and Nite Owl, all we need to know is that they had them. We get all we need to know about their pasts from their interactions in the story.

Wow, and to think that the WWF actually thought that this movie was going to be a big hit for them.

WATCHMEN is one of the most important comics of the last 20+ years. It helped change the genre by asking such questions as what if these kinds of characters really existed, how would it effect the world, and what type of personalities would be attracted to this kind of extreme life style? What you get with WATCHMEN is an exploration of the answers to such questions. It takes the traditional character archetypes of the superhero genre and places them into the backdrop of key moments in American history. It introduces black and white characters into a morally grey world, and deconstructs the whole image of the upright and noble superhero who fights for truth, justice and the American way...[more]...
Definitely with you on all of what you said. People got to give it more credit than they do.
Sincerely agree with all of this. A comic classic. Not limited by its adherence to the source, but heightened by it.
Just rewatched Spielberg's War of the Worlds, haven't seen it since it first came out. It's a lot better than I remembered, and there is some really surreal shit in that movie. Yeah the alien ships coming out the ground is dumb, but there is some great, well Directed and tense sequences in it. I liked how it was shot in that immersive style kind of like Cloverfield too. I'd rate it about a 7/10

Yet another case of how do I write a review for a movie I absolutely love from top to bottom. I spent most of my last review talking about what I love about Nolan's vision in general, so here I'm gonna spend some time talking about the character portrayals and what I think makes them great in my opinion. So buckle up gang, "and here we-- go...[more]...
Wicked review dude, really insightful and entertaining. TDK and BB still remain THE best comic book movies.
The profundity in this review is sublime. I fucking love this write-up dude.
Casting Call

Al Simmons was a Government black ops specialist who was murdered for knowing to much for his own good. After his death Simmons was offered a deal to return to Earth so he could see his beloved wife Wanda again if he served in Maleboglia's army. I like Common's screen presence as an actor, and I think it could work well in this role. He can play a badass with a soul which is exactly what is needed for the role of Al Simmons. There's no doubt in my mind that he can handle all the covert ops and assassination stuff from Al's past, as well as play the brooding aspects of Spawn without it getting all whiny and emo.

Jason Wynn is a corrupt Government official that heads the secret Agency Al Simmons worked for. He's obsessed with money and power, and uses the assets of the Agency to serve his own ends. He has used his position to amass so much power that he can make or break U.S. Presidents, or overthrow foreign Governments at his will. It was him that gave the order to kill Simmons, as Al had learned of his abuses of power and Wynn knew he was to much of a boy scout to ever willingly join up with him. You need an actor who brings presence and weight to a role like this, and could you honestly tell me given some of his recent roles that De Niro would turn it down or consider it beneath him at this point?
Chapel - Terry Crews
Chapel was the Agency rival to Al Simmons, and it was Chapel that killed Al on Jason Wynn's orders after Al learned the truth about Wynn's dirty dealings and abuse of power. Where Al looked at his job as serving his country and protecting American interest around the globe, Chapel embraced all the dark aspects of the job and became a killer for hire.

Imagine Juggernaut combined with Robocop and you've got Overtkill. Part man, part machine, he's a walking a tank with a bad attitude. He was originally hired by the mob to kill Spawn in the comics, but seeing as your dealing with corrupt Government Agencies that have access to all kinds of experimental technology it would make more sense to me if he were dispatched by Wynn to find and eliminate Spawn. There's a lot going on already with all the Heaven/Hell and Rogue Government Agencies that bringing the mob into it would be unnecessary and only serve to convolute things in my opinion. The character only exists for one purpose anyway, to have a knock down drag out brawl with Spawn.

Sam and Twitch are a couple of New York City Detectives who always seem to get mixed up in all the craziness surrounding Spawn. Sam, a bull in a china shop type of personality who's mouth always gets him into trouble, and Twitch his quite little partner with a nervous demeanor who's the brains of the team. Twitch's real secret though is that he's an ace marksman who can shoot the balls off a fly from 100 yards, a skill that has saved Sam's butt on numerous occasions. Together they create a classic fat guy/skinny guy comedy duo, and there fun characters who share the audiences perspective of everything going on around them just like R2 D2 and C-3PO.

Maleboglia is pretty much the Devil, he's collecting souls to build an army so he can march on the gates of Heaven and burn it to the ground. Very special souls such as Al Simmons are granted great power and placed on Earth as Hellspawn to hone their abilities so that they can become great warriors and leaders in Maleboglia's army. The character would most likely be CGI, lets just hope it's better CGI than the last time. Anyway you need an actor of a certain caliber to really pull off a role like this, and with his roles as Victor in Underworld and Davy Jones in Pirates of the Caribbean I think Bill Nighy is the man for the job. He brings all the sophistication and cold hearted evil the role requires, and that great Shakespearean voice as well.
Clown / Violator - Danny Devito
Al Simmons is a special soul for Maleboglia because of his resourcefulness and militant training, so he tasks one of his demons The Violator with grooming him as a leader for his army. Though The Violator believes it should be him leading the army he begrudgingly accepts the job, if only to prove that it should rightfully be him and not some human leading the assault on the gates of Heaven. The character of Clown, the Earthly vessel for The Violator was modeled after Danny DeVito, and with Danny's background in dark comedy it's just to perfect to ignore. There is nobody else who could be as great as he would be in this role, it was tailor made for him.

Just like Caretaker in Ghost Rider Cogliostro was once a Hellspawn whom managed to beat the Devil at his own game. He has been waiting in the wings looking for another Hellspawn like Al that was a good man tricked into making a deal with Maleboglia so he can mentor him, and teach him how to use his powers to fight back against the demon Maleboglia. He was a King during the Dark Ages that made a deal with Malboglia to save his people, but of course being the devil that he is Maleboglia manipulated the deal just to get the Kings soul. Sean Bean is fantastic in these type of roles, and brings all the weariness needed to play a man that has walked the earth for centuries with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Angela is an Angel from Heaven, she's a bounty hunter who specializes in killing Hellspawn. After battling with Al though she realises he's not an evil man and becomes an ally in his fight against Maleboglia. She even became a love interest for Al at one point as well. You need someone beautiful enough to be an Angel, but can handle the physicality of playing a badass warrior goddess. Biel can do both which is why I went with her.
BoredFantastic choices for all of these man.. great job. I specifically love the Michael Emerson/Twitch and Vinnie Jones/Overkill casting.
So is Jeremy Renner playing the same character as Matt Damon in the next Bourne movie, or another Treadstone Assassin using the Bourne identity?
Yeah, I just watched Ultimatum and realized that. Haven't seen it since it first came out.
@Owl - yeah man for sure I'm glad that it's not a recast (in fact Damon and Greengrass said they'd like to come back to the series/character in the future a few years down the line after this movie) and a new character and I'm actually looking forward to it, mainly because Norton is the bad guy which should be awesome. What I meant is that `Bourne` isn't really in it. I mean yeah, technically it's a code name but although his real name was revealed in the third flick no one really went `ah finally, now we know his real name, lets call him David Webb` everyone just kept calling him Bourne because after three movies, Matt Damon is Jason Bourne -- he's not David Webb. I just meant it in that sense, yeah his real name was revealed but I don't think they'll use it as a codename again for another character, first off it would just confuse the audience/mass population of the world because it's not Matt Damon and it's not even the same character he was playing and secondly because that just wouldn't make much sense, an intelligence agency using the exact codename for an agent twice. I realize that it's the smart business movie to call it The Bourne Legacy and yeah it is in the Bourne world but it just feels like a cheap marketing ploy to me because Bourne really isn't involved at all. I'd rather it be a spin off series in the same universe (which it is) called The Cross Identity or something, why not. I mean seriously, there is a book called The Bourne Legacy, but that book is all about Jason Bourne and the upcoming movie The Bourne Legacy has nothing to do with that book or Jason Bourne (like all previous installments had been) I don't know... it's just a clusterfuck and a bit of a piss off for me... it really wouldn't be that hard for people to understand it was a movie in the Bourne universe/the same kinda movie if they called it The Cross Identity or something, especially with the most likely massive marketing campaign it'll get. I've heard that the movie deals with some issues that came off of Bourne's actions in the previous films, but lets be honest that's obviously a bit of a stretch just so they can call it The Bourne something and rake in a few extra bucks and I highly doubt it has much if anything to do with anything Bourne did, maybe a nod or two at most I'm thinking because really, he didn't really leave a path of destruction or anything or change much anything at all. Sorry for the gigantic post lol
I see what your saying, but it's Hollywood and they will always play it safe when it comes to marketing. The Bourne name is an established brand for them, and maybe he does use the codename in the movie so who knows, we'll have to wait and see. I think it'd be great if Damon did a cameo in it or something like that.
Rewatched The Stand miniseries for the first time in years. My first thought was damn this thing was cheaply made, and my second was what the Hell is Sam Raimi doing acting in this thing? John Landis was in it too.
Haven't seen this show in years, in fact I think it was when it first came out. Couldn't revisit it now after finishing the book. The comic is great though
Jamie Sheridan was so good I couldn't help but picture him when Randall Flagg showed up in The Dark Tower.
The movie was very cheap but I think that's some of it's charm (for me at least), seeing Mother Abigail's had grab the nuke or that flu commercial didn't really bother me.

Even as a Raimi Spidey fan, I'll drink to that notion.
