One of the Reasons I Love the Midwest...
As some of you may or may not know I currently reside in Michigan. Metro Detroit (40 min outside Detroit) to be exact. I've been living here in Michigan for 11 years come November. And I have to say that the longer I stay the more I love and loathe this place. Originally I was born and raised in California. San Diego was the main home for the bulk of my adolescent years. Was forced to move this way after my Dad retired from the Navy, and boy was I not happy about that. I was 2 months into my senior year of high school and I had to bolt. Without getting off track I'll just say I was horribly depressed and mad at my parents for years.
Over the years I've learned more and seen more from living here in Michigan. One of the things I have seen way too much of is the constant snow and sub-zero freezing winters that Michigan has to offer. I used to live in the U.P. (upper peninsula) of Michigan when I was in college and soon afterward. Let me tell you, the winters up there are EPIC. It never stops snowing up there. I remember it snowing in September once, and the last snow fall happening in May!
Anyone from from the midwest or northern states, Canada, etc. can agree that after a few weeks the winters can get real old real quick. Don't get me wrong I love winter, but after awhile it becomes a pain in the butt.
It is currently March right now and those who have to live in these cold winters know this is the month when things slowly start to get better. Well hopefully, lol. In like a Lion and out like a lamb, as they say. Well so far in the first few days the Lion has consisted of bright and sunny days. The weather has been teasing with the 40s and I couldn't be happier. So if this is how the Lion is coming in, then hell I can't wait for the lamb, lol
The reason I bring this subject up is the fact that people who live in cold weather places tend to appreciate warm/nice weather more than anyone else. I can say this knowing I've lived in San Diego. Which is known for the best weather in the U.S. bar none. After living here in Michigan I can look forward to something after horrendous winters. In California it was always nice, so I was spoiled by the great warmth. Not here in Michigan. On special days like today, I feel rejuvenated and shit, lol. People in this area are happier and they can't complain knowing that up until recently, know one has seen the sun in weeks.
I can go on and on but you get the idea. When you know nice weather is around the corner you get optimistic. Especially me and my seasonal affective disorder. So yes we know that warm weather is the best time to get stuff done and see the women with less clothing, etc etc. Only can those who endure the frozen tundra really respect its greatness :P
*don't mind the grammar and such I just did this on a whim
Horny

lol Horny. No worries about the grammar, this is a blog enty not a story. If it were I'd be on your ass but in a loving and constructive way. xo
As a New Englander, I understand what you're writing about. I hate opening the door in the winter because the cold just hits you. I act like a vampire and hiss lol But it doesn't feel like the holidays without cold air and snow. Summes are just fabulous, I can play with my dogs outdoors, eat ice cream, walk around everywhere and jump for joy when that truck comes. Then there are shirtless dudes..gay and straight lol
You're right about the appreciation because you have no idea until you've been on both ends of the spectrum.
Anyway, nice blog entry :)
