Ok, this shit about SDCC is pissing me off. Marvel Studios pulled from SDCC, not Marvel. Dreamworks, WB, Disney, and The Weinstein Company have all pulled as well. These are all movie companies. The fucking convention is called Comic-Con not Movie-Con. It's not turning into a Twilight convention either. You have one more year of Twilight and its done. So just calm the fuck down.

@Matches: I'm not saying it's a CON for movies but it has always been a CON for media entertainment overall. Whether it's books, comics, movies, TV, etc. Maybe in the very beginning it was just comics but it hasn't been that way for a very long time.

All I'm saying is no it wasn't "always" a con for that. The con has been around since 1970. It's just become more and more bastardized in the last 5-10 years. It's good to see this change coming. Not to mention I don't think movie studios really gain much from the con and they have basically said the same thing.

I full heartedly agree I lost all interest in SDCC the year they put all the comic guests on a little boat away from the con. Comics should be front and center at Comic-Con. I have no problem with studios promoting a few genre based movies there but c'mon they promoted the Other Guys last year.

Law's opinion on GL was solid, but his comments on the helicopter scene are way off. If you know anything about the comic and the way Hal works, that was a complete nod to the start of the character and the way he works. Hal has always had the cheesy constructs. They giant boxing gloves, the giant chairs and giant toys. This was dead on to the character.

The scene made sense to me. The inspiration for the construct came from his nephew's toy earlier, plus he is still a rookie amongst the GLs. His imagination and understanding of construct creation grows over time and continued use.

The Nolan Batman movies are like James Bond adventures instead of superhero movies, which is what I think sets those movies apart from the rest of the genre.

Agreed, he's just an action hero for fucks sake. Its not like he shoots lightning bolts out of his asshole or anything. I did like the Thomas Jane movie for what it was, and I enjoy WAR ZONE as a throwback flick to some of the bargin bin cheesy action movies of the 80's, but they don't really work as good character adaptations though.

I'm sick of all the hate. This isn't geared towards the haters of GL, but movie haters in general. Maybe I'm just not nerdy enough for this community, but fuck, you bastards get angry. Smoke some pot or drink some beer but calm down and fucking enjoy yourself. Even the worst movies I've seen have never gotten me worked up as much as some people seem over three-fourths of the movies they see. I just don't get this anymore. What's the point in watching movies if that's the case?

Green Lantern was decent. Ryan Reynolds was miscast, but I can't blame him for it. Also the only real poor CG work was on his suit, which is a shame cause that's the main thing. Overall the movie was better than I thought it would be, but I wasn't expecting much. I'd give it a 6/10 overall. Jimmy O gave it the best review so far. It's going to get hate, but it's not as bad as people are saying.

I just want a decent Green Lantern adaptation, so chances are I'm not gonna like it, and all the campiness is just a slap in the face like the Schumacher Batman films were. I don't think Green Lantern needs a Dark Knight level treatment, but take the source seriously and play it strait instead of just trying to imitate IRON MAN's tone. If they wanted a lighter more campy movie then they should of went with The Flash instead.

Agreed Nite Owl. I don't think they understood how to make this movie work. I remember reading about how Campbell attached himself to this flick because he just wanted to do something different. That's good and all for him trying to branch out but i don't think there was anyone really spearheading this film making sure that it turned into a great flick instead of a pale imitation of another super hero film.

Based on the movies that have dominated the box office this summer Fast Five, Pirates and Hangover 2 (only the first of which had decent reviews while the others were universally panned), I'm thinking Green Lantern still might have a chance of dominating. It appears movie goers don't like quality movies and instead choose to turn brains off. Ideas?

I actually feel that X-Men First Class was the best and technically that was a sequel to a franchise that was well received by critics yet it did poorly. Sure the last two installments weren't great by any means, but neither were the last two of Pirates. Just more food for thought.

Word Matches, I absolutely loved First Class, thought it was phenomenal and I will see it a second time and buy it on blu-ray. It's only a close second to Super 8 on my personal fav list of summer '11.

For comic book fans, check out the book Morning Glories. Best new project I've read and the first trade is only 10 bucks. Plus, I guarantee this will be made into a movie or TV project soon enough.
