I believe that love that is true and real creates a respite from death. All cowardice comes from not loving or not loving well, which is the same thing and when the man that is brave and true looks death squarely in the face, like some rhino hunters I know, or Belmonte who is truly brave, it is because they love with sufficient passion to push death out of their minds, until it returns, as it does, to all men and then you must make really good love again...Think about it.

Cast:
Studio: Open Road Films
Genre: Action
Official Site:
Plot: In Alaska, an oil drilling team struggle to survive after a plane crash strands them in the wild. Hunting the humans are a pack of wolves who see them as intruders.

Review:

I find Survivial/Disaster movies to be such intriguing motion pictures. The abilty for a filmmaker to put a viewer into an unthinkable (damn near hopeless) situation and to stay with the band of survivors, knowing full-well that some - if not possibly all - will not make it out of their dire quagmire alive...[more]...

Haywire

Haywire-final-poster

Directed by: Steven Soderbergh
Written by: Lem Dobbs
Cast: Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Gina Carano
Studio: Relativity Media
Genre: Action, Thriller
Official Site:
Plot: Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive. Using her black-ops military training, she devises an ingenious?and dangerous?trap. But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she'll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary.

Review:

On the surface, Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh's HAYWIRE may look like a run-of-the-mill superspy action thriller. But Soderbergh likes to shake up the filmmaking conventions in crafty ways. In this particular case, the casting of Mixed Martial Arts celebrity and acting novice Gina Carano in the starring role amongst the support of Hollywood heavywights such as Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, and Michael Douglas among many others. The results are a most refreshing dip into creative action filmmaking and the introduction of our next bona fide action star...[more]...

2012 Critics Choice Awards Nominees

Logopremioscriticoseeuu

For Me, this week begins the movie awards season. Given that my life literally revolves around cinema. It's pretty obvious that I'm salivating at the mouth right now. The Critcs Choice Awards are the first major set of awards to be handed out first thing this January followed by the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors, Director's, and Producer's Guild awards, and finally the Oscars.

Sadly to date, 2011 has proven to be the weakest year for movies since 2002. Of couurse Hollywood kept back their big guns for December (and I'll probably have to wait till January before most of them make their way to my part of Iowa)

I'm pleased to see DRIVE receiving some big love but must admit to being petubed at the lack/absense of nominations for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, TINKER TAILOR SOLIDER SPY, and WIN WIN
