Went from original Alien and Predator to Alien VS Predator. Then had to go to the other two popular opponents, Freddy VS Jason. So ofcourse I am gonna indulge in Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. Watching Friday the 13th right now and posting some movie reviews.

Inception

Inception-poster1

Directed by: Christopher Nolan
Written by: Christopher Nolan
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Cillian Murphy, Ken Watanabe, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Tom Berenger
Studio: Warner Bros
Genre: Action, Science-Fiction
Official Site: www.inceptionmovie.com
Plot: Another mess with your mind movie for Leonardo DiCaprio.

Review:

This is the second movie of that kind for DiCaprio since Shutter Island. However much more satisfying. Shutter Island was suspenseful and the ending was twisted, yet not satisfying enough for closure. Luckily Inception did not make the same mistake. Along with that, once again Leonardo DiCaprio proves he can be the best lead in almost any movie he makes. Christopher Nolan, not including Insomnia, almost can't direct a bad film. Memento, The Prestige, Batman Begins, Dark Knight, and now this. Joseph Gordon-Levitt has become quite the actor since his days on 3rd Rock from the Sun. Also some nice appearences from Nolan's Batman cast, Cillian Murphy and Michael Cain. Cilian Murphy in paticular who had played a Batman villain and here I didnt know weather his character was good or evil at times. With out giving away too much, Im sure people are going to be asking if this movie is in the same league as The Matrix and Dark City. Yes they have their similarities however Inception leaves alot more questions open then Dark City and the first entry of The Matrix. So hopefully you will be kept in suspense and wait for more answers. As they say in The Matrix, follow the white rabbit.

Predators

Predators-poster1

Directed by: Nimrod Antel
Written by: Robert Rodriguez
Cast: Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins, Derek Mears
Studio: Fox
Genre: Action, Horror, Thriller
Official Site: www.predators-movie.com
Plot: Predator series has never dissapointed me and still has not.

Review:

Loved the first two Predator movies. The first Alien vs Predator didnt quite live up to the original but was good for what it was. The second Alien vs Predator brought the series back to its routes. As far as this entry, it is here to further put together the connections between Predator and Alien and lead to the upcoming Alien prequel. Keep in mind though not all the answers are given here which will probably be laid out for a trilogy. Here we do get to learn more about the Predators as a species and how they adapt which comes with some nice twist as well as the human characters themselves. This movie stands on its own in comparison to the original. Its inevtiable to be compared but rather then using parts from the original, they are more like tributes. Yes we get references but there extended and more imaginative. I believe this movie to be the working grounds for another great set of Predator movies.

Grown Ups

Grown-ups-poster1

Directed by: Dennis Dugan
Written by: Tim Herlihy, Adam Sandler, Fred Wolf
Cast: Adam Sandler, Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Kevin James, Maria Bello, Jamie Chung, Rob Schneider, Dave Spade, Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph, Gary Busey, Norm McDonald, Tim Meadows, Colin Quinn
Studio: Columbia Pictures
Genre: Comedy
Official Site: www.grownups-movie.com
Plot: Funny but not to the highest expectations.

Review:

Kevin James basically rules the whole movie with some help from David Spade and a nice cameo from Steve Bucemi. Adam Sandler felt like he was on a downward spiral. Chris Rock is bearly there and Rob Schneider is more like a depressing Gigalo rather then Deuce Bigalo. Plotwise, unfortunately with some of the cast lacking in the comedy department so does the movie itself which takes awhile to get going.

The Bounty Hunter

Bounty-hunter-poster2

Directed by: Andy Tennant
Written by: Sarah Thorp
Cast: Jennifer Aniston, Gerard Butler, Jason Sudeikis, Christine Baranski
Studio: Sony Pictures
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Official Site: www.thepursuitbegins.com
Plot: Definitely another successful chick flick this year.

Review:

Besides for Just Like Heaven, I have not really been a fan of chick flicks. I gotta say though with Knight and Day, and The Bounty Hunter my mind is becoming more open. What helps are the chemistry between the leads. At first they hate eachother, are both quite hillarious, and eventually somehow fall in love. Plus I am big fan of Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston.

The Karate Kid

Karate-kid-poster1-2

Directed by: Harald Zwart
Written by: Christopher Murphey
Cast: Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith, Taraj P. Henson
Studio: Columbia Pictures
Genre: Action
Official Site: www.sonypictures.com/movies/thekaratekid
Plot: I loved the original Karate Kid, but this one simply out did it with acting and storywise.

Review:

Jaden Smith has prooved he is definitely his father, maybe even better. Jackie Chan gives one of his few and his best performance in the drama department. Storywise, the remake managed to be more compelling location and age wise. It definitely gave more of a dramatic sense of Jaden Smith's character fitting in with moving from one country to another rather then just from one state to another like the original. Also it gave the movie more obstacles to play on using a younger character then the original.

The Last Airbender

Last-airbender-poster4

Directed by: M. Night Shyamalan
Written by: M. Night Shyamalan
Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Dev Patel, Jackson Rathbone, Shaun Toub, Aasif Mandvi, Cliff Curtis
Studio: Paramount Pictures
Genre: Action
Official Site: www.thelastairbendermovie.com/
Plot: M. Night Shymalan I gotta say has definitely redeemed himself since the horrible Lady in the Water.

Review:

I did like The Happening but it was nice to see him get out of his usual genre. Here we get some nice 3D fantasy action. The story is promising and yes at times the young actors do get alittle cartoonish. Then again all great series like Harry Potter have had that and as the movies went on, the story and actors would grow and develope. As for Last Airbender, not a M. Night Shymalan masterpiece but a step in the right direction for the upcoming trilogy of this series.

Edge of Darkness

Edgeofdarkness-quad

Directed by: Martin Campbell
Written by: William Monahan
Cast: Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston
Studio: Warner Bros.
Genre: Drama
Official Site: edge-of-darkness.warnerbros.com
Plot: Mel Gibson back in action! You bet.

Review:

Not really a pure action movie but a suspense edge of your seat action thriller. Things get started right away and we get one of the movie's climatic scenes right from the begining. It builds up beautifully followed by some very unexpected and shocking moments even when you think your exspecting them. As for Mel Gibson, he is definitely back with one of his finest performances ever. He actually had a bad ass Rober Deniro thing going on. Not that he has not been bad ass before but this made me want to see him in the next Martin Scorscese gangsta flick. As for the supporting cast, the one who deserves as much recognition as Mel Gibson was Ray Winston. I will refrain from saying how much I loved him and his character to avoid spoilers. But I will say I don't understand why his name was not casted higher and I do believe that if this was not Mel Gibson's comeback film, his name would be head lined as well as Mel. In conclusion, a great edge of your seat, literally, plot with dynamic duo performances from Gibson and Winston.

Avatar

Avatar-poster1

Directed by: James Cameron
Written by: James Cameron
Cast: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver
Studio: Fox
Genre: Action, Adventure, Science-Fiction
Official Site: www.avatarmovie.com
Plot: Is James Cameron back? Hell Yes.

Review:

Once again another step forward for special effects. Just like with T2 James Cameron is around for what I would call the best CGI I have ever seen character wise. The Avatar aliens appear to be as real as you can imagine. And plotwise, it is definitely Cameron quality after the big wait. Also we have Sam Worthington who brought the Terminator series back to life, Sigourney Weaver back in older form in a Cameron film no less, and it is always nice to see Michelle Rodriguez.

The Wolfman

Wolfman-poster6

Directed by: Joe Johnston
Written by: Andrew Kevin Walker
Cast: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving, Art Malik
Studio: Universal Pictures
Genre: Horror
Official Site: www.thewolfmanmovie.com/
Plot: Finally a direct remake to the original Wolfman.

Review:

I have always greatly enjoyed Werewolf movies that have come out such as American Werewolf in London-Paris and also enjoyed Underworld trilogy but there has never really been too many adaptations of the original story of the Wolfman. There was Curse of the Wolfman (1961) which I believed is the best to date and is actually suppose to be more loyal to the original Wolfman novel then even the original Wolfman. Now getting back to the remake, it uses the same characters as the original and gives the story a few extra juicy twist to it. Anthony Hopkins, Hugo Weaving, and Emily Blunt end up giving superior performances to the original cast of their characters. Anthony Hopkins being the best out of all of them and it was quite nice to see him in a horror movie since Francis Ford Copola's Dracula. However where the performances falls flat was Benicio Del Torro. Lets face he is no Lon Chaney Jr. I like him as an actor but in this movie and others I never really feel connected to his character. Sometimes his performances feel on the flat side but his acting is still good, not captivating but he still does his job here. Also one character that was missing from the original was Bella the gypsy. Of course on site I guess no one could find anyone to take Bela Lugosi's shoes. I might of accepted Anthony Hopkins but in the end I am glad that they...[more]...
