Niki's Weekend Podcast

Nikicast

Okay boys and girls.

I'm going to go ahead and get this shit started. I will record the next podcast either Friday night or Saturday. I figured I'd write a blog so that we can speak at length on ideas, if need be.

I want to know what you'd like to hear me talk about. If you want a honest opinion on something entertainment related I'll give it to you. Hell, if you want an opinion on life I'll give you that as well. I'd like the podcast to be a total back and forth, 'let's bullshit the whole thing' ordeal. Of course I'll map it out so I don't sound like a dumbass, but I want it to be something fun. Now I don't want to make it an advice column or anything, I'm far from Dear Abby, but I just want to cover more than just one area. Keep in mind that I only have 30 minutes or so to talk so I've gotta speak rather swiftly.

As for topics I want to cover for the next podcast, I really want to get into music. I'd also like to cover comics that I think are awesome that you should read. Beyond that, I've got nothing as of yet. So give me your opinions, ideas, questions, brainstorms, rants, etc. I'll cover what you suggest and we'll see how that goes. If you don't suggest something, I may rap/sing the theme to FRESH PRINCE OF BEL AIR. You've been warned.

All pretty cool topics so far, but if you get the chance I'd like to know what movie you first watched that made you love film.

The Wonderful World of Remakes

Okay, that was pure sarcasm.

As you may know, I am not in favor of remakes. Especially the insane amount that are in production or even being rumored at this crazy time. Now when I say remake I'm talking about things that are ridiculous like: Rocky Horror Picture Show, Conan, Breakfast Club, etc. These movies are classics. The formula that they already have is simply amazing, and to touch that by thinking that you might override these classics is not only absurd but worthy of me wondering, "WTF is wrong with you?!" Now there have been good remakes/adaptations...which while I'm on the subject adaptations are the better way to go. That way you can make something your own without stepping on something someone already envisioned wonderfully. You have to choose your battles carefully, use your gaming tactics. Shit, play COD4 then rethink the idea of remaking something that millions of people adore. You just don't fuck with the formula. Especially if you know it's a good one. There are just some things you can't top. Now you may tell me...'But what about "insert film here"?' I'm not downing all remakes, I'm just saying the recent mass of remakes makes me wonder who really has talent in that place they call Hollywood.

What happened to the original ideas? What happened to sitting down and coming up with something on your own? Hell, find something to be inspired by. Do research, travel, do things that you haven't done to inspire yourself to write a screenplay that people can admire. Write something that years from now someone else will try to remake and we will hex them for even thinking such blasphemy.

Oh, and I am all about me as Poison Ivy in the next Batman movie. Even though I see it as unlikely, I did used to act so I wouldn't be that horrible. Honestly, I'd do better acting that Halle Berry in Catwoman, and I'll guarantee you that. Oh, and I read comics. That counts for something right?!

southland tales

so my better half and i went to movie trading company and got a stack of movies we've been wanting to watch. one of them being southland tales, which was pretty amazing.

i was checking out the boards here and a lot of people weren't really into it. i guess it's not for a lot of people. i figure the people who like it either are huge richard kelly fans, enjoy weird ass movies, the idea of time travel, or reflections on our current america told in a different perspective.

oh, and why dont people like sarah michelle gellar? what kind of shit is that? okay, so she's not typically great but she is entertaining and to top it off, gorgeous. since when did we start being so hardcore on movies and actors? how did we survive the films of the 70s, 80s, and part of the 90s?

ugh i'm getting off on a different rant now...anywho, southland tales was beautifully put together. the cast of mainly comedians, to me wasn't too much, it let those actors show each of their sides. madtv and snl...and it was good cast members...not the crappy ones. yeah it was a little long, a tad complicated but damn was it a good experience. and another play on time travel. and when i listed who would like this movie....i'm all those people.

ps. the justin timberlake scene is amazing. it ignites my desire to be involved in the movie community even more.

Excellent film on all accounts. Timberlake rocks the killers song.

2 other things: I just recently found out I'm in love with Zooey Deschanel after watching Manic, Weeds, seeing the trailer for The Happening and catching her in an early Offspring vide

oh heath.

i'll miss you. i hate to think that the only reason that you have to be a legend is in death, and playing the joker. you were an amazing actor is my book.

again, my heart goes out to michelle and matilda.

i'm sorry.

dear christina aguilera,

i'm sorry i thought you were a slut bag. even though you did do that one video that was just as bad as the show 'a shot of love with tila tequila'....which is much more gross. you are actually pretty cool. and you're still married and haven't shown your va jay jay...so that's two you've got up on everyone else. so again, sorry.

first time.

So'es, I was very excited about being the schmoe yesterday. I was so silly about it, it's like an honor to me even though I'm sure it's totally chosen at random. Well, I'm just glad to be here so I can finally make comments on some of these news stories. This place keeps me updated all the time, and for some one who really digs pop culture it's crazy good.

I've been trying to list my DVD collection a few at a time but I have so freakin many and it's taking forever. Like seriously...a lot. We don't rent movies, we just buy them.

It's my favorite thing on a Saturday night.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, it's nice to see so many people who are as nerdy about movies as myself. :D
